So my DOE student loan has been paid off and they reported to the CRA's but I think its inaccurate.

I have attached screen shot images from my USAA CMPP. I would just like some input from you guys on what I should do and how I should handle this.

Brief overview:

The top picture shows a balance. When I first contacted the DOE that rep told me that my account was headed for collection but I called in at the right time to have them pull it back and not have to pay the fee's associated with the collection. I made 1 payment of $50 and then paid the student loan off in full the next month. This was almost a year ago. I want to assume that the top image is of the collection company and NOT my original account (bottom picture) that shows a $0 balance.

I don't know what to do from here....I have researched so many threads and I have not gotten a clear picture on what to do.....Please Help!

Any questions please ask.

The top image is not a CA, that's another address for the DOE. Just to clarify, do both of these tradelines currently appear on your reports? And if so, are the account numbers exactly the same for each?

Yes both are appearing on my report. The $752 account is now reporting negative and NOT closed anymore. Its stating they are collection accounts but they are not.

No the account numbers are different.

I paid $652 to DOE

You'll find that the Dept of Ed often reports to just 1 or 2 CRA's and the others pick it up thru data sharing.

I know this was true of TU. I consolidated and the old loans never updated. It looked like I owed twice what I actually did. Took 2 rounds of disputes to clean it up.

Have you tried disputing? Any luck?

The different account numbers may be due to having one subsidized loan and one unsubsidized.

Yes I have disputed twice....on my third right now! YIPPEEE

I only had 1 loan which was for $652. When I called in to pay it, the CSR told me that she had to pull it back from a inside collections dept. and I paid my original account not my 'inside collection' account which was just changed on 1st round of disputes. At first my 'inside collections' was paid and not my original and that got changed but 'inside collection' account was not deleted like it was suppose to.

I've never had any luck disputing DOE tradelines, they seem to verify everything regardless of how wrong it is. I have had luck with the DOE by calling them. If you manage to get the right person on the phone, explain your problem to them in detail and they should ask you to fax over copies of the bad tradelines to get them removed. I had a blatantly wrong DOE tradeline that got verified twice, but after I drew up a letter explaining the issue and faxed it over with a copy of my Experian report, the tradeline was removed after a month. For the record I called the same 1-800-848-0979 number listed on your second report.

Thanks for the info so far jaybee.

Any idea on how I should position my call to them? What should I say? I have called many times before and they say everything is correct on there part. So I get nowhere with them.

I would ask this - "A DOE Rep told me that I paid in time to avoid having my account go to collections. Why are two negative tradelines appearing on my credit reports for my one account, and why does one of them appear to be labeled as a DOE collection account?"

I feel like I have said this to them and there response was....everything is good on our end. The CRA must be disputing it wrong. Contact them to figure it out.

I will call them again today and see what I can do.
