Hello, everyone! I have some questions regarding credit reporting there (in relation to an American citizen) and I'm hoping some one might be able to give me some information.

If I move to Canada to attend graduate school, will I secure a student loan from Canada, or because I am an American citizen, will that loan need to come from the US? I've made some credit mistakes in the past, and with no one able to help and a credit history below par, I'm sort of stuck. This is all still a couple of years away, but I didn't want to get my hopes up if school loans in Canada would be an issue, as well.

Depends on how you enter Canada.

More likely than not, you would enter on a student visa. In this case you would likely be getting Stafford and other US Government loans. Most schools in Canada are going to be certified for US DoE loans. Private student loans could come from either the US or Canada, depending on your credit situation.

If you are able to secure permanent residency prior to going to school, you could be eligible for Canada student loans (basically equivalent of Stafford/Pell and the other US programs, but with some interesting features).

If you can manage the immigration approval, option two is better. Not because of Canada student loans, but because you'd be paying in-province tuition rather than international (assuming you establish residency in the province of your school).

Did I remember correctly that I read you were doing forensic anthropology? What schools in Canada have that type of program? Last I looked I would have been limited to a few US schools but mostly EU.

I'm sorry this is late bostonte, but thanks very much for your reply!

For my degree, my concentration is forensic, yes, but only because my school is a little odd and only allows two areas of study in anthropology- archaeology or forensics. I chose forensic because I like the physical side of anthropology, but I don't know that forensics is the path I want to take. I'm duel majoring with biology though, so I'm looking into Canadian grad schools with biological anthropology programs.

I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet... I would really love a change of scenery, though.

Thanks again
