A friend of mine is thinking of going back to school, total tution to complete nursing program would be around 43k. She has just been d/c from a Chpt 7 BK .I believe it was June of this year, (the BK d/c) She has never had any student loans of any kind. She is currently not working, but is married and the husband makes in the 75k range. No mortgages, or any bills for that matter, besides the usual rent, electric, gas etc. Is there any lenders that would lend to her with a recent BK and no cosigner. They filed jointly also. Anyone know?

She needs to find a different school. That is a ridiculous amount for nursing school. Im in the process of schooling for RN and all I have to pay for are books (All said about $7000 for the entire program!) She needs to look into her local community colleges. Im going on the notion that shes looking at a private school.... if community college is an option, she should take it.

Why does she want private loans? She needs to fill out a FAFSA. That will tell her if she qualifies for grants and fee waivers. Not to mention federal loan (low fixed APR)

I thought we made too much for student loans but I actually qualified for the max amount $9500 (per year) I did not get grants but I did get a fee waiver - meaning I dont have to pay for any classes (only books). We make $120k a year; family of 3. My annual 'student contribution' was just over $17000.

Good luck to her. Nursing is a wonderful career.
