My son has been accepted for a Masters at a University in the U.K. Does anyone know if indeed it is possible to secure loans for overseas studies? This would be from September '08-September '09.

TIA!!

I just looked at the websites for Cambridge and the London School of Economics, and both of them say that US Students may obtain federal loans for graduate work, so it does look like it's possible.

Your best bet would be to have your son call the university. I'm sure they'll be familiar with financial aid available to American students.

That is a great idea, Saria. University of Glasgow, Scotland. He is pumped at the nod...now to figure out how to pay for it...funny thing is the university is completely FREE to all U.K. residents!!!!

Good for him - I hope he has a great experience there  If you look at their website, they have a page with information regarding Stafford loans for US students. Best of luck!

Saria, I feel like such an salamander that I did not even think to look there!! You are so right and I have that whole section "Registry" on the UG website all saved to my favorites and we had better get started at filling out all the forms. Many thanks, feeling better already about how we are going to indeed get this paid for!! :clapping:

I can attest to student loans and financial aid for US students in any accredited University/School outside the US. I went to school in the UK for 3 years, and did my fafsa etc, and put in the schools code and the money went to them. The biggest flag to watch is timing, sometimes Fafsa doesn't work with how the UK system does for payment. This happened to me so I had to pay a deposit, once the money was transferred, they refunded me, but it was a big shock and almost stopped me from attending the first semester.

Good luck to your son!
