Hi all. New to the boards, but I have been reading and felt I should chime in here with a reply. I used to be a banker for Wells Fargo, and specialized in business accounts for my branch. That's an old life as I have now started my own company full time, but that's another story. The bottom line is this:
There is no special "storage place" or anything like that that stores your SS info. It is kept secure on a server, and like most other large companies that may have your personal info, by and large it is secure. Before I left Wells, they had even gotten to the point where we could not see the SS, it said "TIN Filed". I'm sure most companies, especially banks, are moving to this. As far as your record affecting your account, the only reason you would have an issue is if your business had previous negative records with that bank. Most of the time, even if you have had a negative personal record, if your business check comes up clean, you'll be good to go. If you are on Chex, it will be tougher, but the thing to know is that that CAN be overwritten by a forgiving manager. If you show that you are paying it off, or there was an error, and you let them know that you want to bank with them, in almost all cases they would rather get a new account package than let potential numbers walk out the door.
Hope this helps.
