Looking for federal laws revolving around field agents/chase agents in consumer collections. As well as allowed penalties for non-compliance My big question is regarding what they are allowed to do.

Anyone ever hear of a company called "Law Centric"?

NO, I can't find them either except on the complaint sites, like you said. some lousy telemarketer. - are you in the national do not call list? https://www.donotcall.gov/ opt out. read the pinned topic " Your Collection Score" All explained. sounds like a robo dialer - I think that they are trying to work their way around the TCPA by having you enter in the number of the member that contacted you - therefore establishing a business relationship and consent. http://www.fcc.gov/guides/robocalls file a complaint with the FCC http://www.fcc.gov/complaints Your opinion on the idea of them trying to claim relationship through providing your number may be the case. What is really odd is the fact that, I broke down and entered my number to see what would happen, and the system responds with number not found, please enter member phone number or call back from member phone. So really is quite strange. -
yes I have 2 "junk cards with tiny limits from over 10 years ago. I have kept the cards, as it really does matter when they review length/history. Ironically I had score of 698 (due to currently high utilization) and was recently going for a loan that was first "approved" but they later reviewed again and denied with reason given length of individual credit line history. It has been more than 2 years since I have had any new credit, so clearly that duration matters.

OK I am trying to figure this one out, but they appear to be more of a ambulance chasing type legal service than a collector, but it is possible and appear to operate throughout the USA. On several call boards I find people complaining they kept getting numbers from this call with no message, but all the people that did speak with someone it was always asking about if someone at that home needed legal aid of some kind. I got a call from them as well, and actually I think it may have been a call back from a legal referral service I provided my info to, and they were just the respondant. Clearly not a quality service though if you need legal help based on how it appears to operate. I will note that when calling them back they do refer to themselves as a member service. What did make me a bit suspicious was that they want you to enter the phone number of the "member" aka the number they called you from. In the end I suspect they themselves are actually some sort of paralegal referall service that makes money by calling people to find people that need lawyers, and may be this need on any public records they find as well, and then after brief discussion, find someone in that field that could do the job, and then they take a big referral fee. That is what I SUSPECT to be the case, based on when this call came for me, and what I saw of other people mentioning their experience with call. Since they deal nation wide, in theory it is possible that they could do collections to as a side business, so anything is possible, but have found no references to that. -
Ok This seems like a really stupid question, and I would think that if I saw this post. However... I need to ask due to a combination of 2 recent discoveries. I just today discovered that my automatic mortgage payment didn't go through at the beginning of the month from my checking, I am remitting payment now, however mortgages SHOULD report like other loans and credit and not show until 30 days past due, correct? I ask, as I assume that it would be 30 days, however I I got a major ding on my credit Experian score without other explanation just days after I had pulled my score as well as received it from a potential lender, so a bit confused. I have also heard other complaints about experian reporting before 30 days but I would assume that is a lender issue and not the CRA itself. Plan to request new free copy due to recent situation, due to sudden credit change through experian. For the moment however just trying to confirm the mortgage situation, as just discovered the non-payment today, so a bit shocked at the moment. Thanks

What are *Currently* the Best Business Credit Cards ?
ouchthatburns replied to ouchthatburns's topic in Business Credit
And I should clarify that I am referring to Visa/Mastercard type credit cards, not just LOC at a particular store. -
Hmmm used to spend a ton (like 100k/mo) on adwords several years ago, but hardly use now. Anyone know what their requirements are for getting this LOC or how to apply without invite?

I am curious what limits Amex has been imposing on their business platinum cards. Has anyone had RECENT experience in applying and using an AmEx business platinum card in their business. What limits have you been receiving , and is there anything you can do at activation to get it higher. Yes, I realize that there is no "preset spending limit," but that is not really true now is it. I was approved based on a offer they sent my business, however it is unclear what usage limits I am going to get out of it, and I received today, however have not activated it yet, wondering if there is anything I can do at activation to improve that.

that is correct, consumer protection laws do not apply to business credit. You don't get the same type of protection against you on business credit.

Well this is a bit of a hard question as how many lines you have reporting is going to be a factor here. I would not charactize cancelling service as a negative impact on your score, however you obviously will have one less line reporting activity, and if you only have a few lines reporting it can make your score go down, but if you have many lines it should not make much difference.

Not really any advantage these days, and actually can be a disadvantage if you are looking to use D&B scores, as you will then also have to apply in your home state as well as a foreign corp, so that you are legit in the eyes of places like D&B. The people still pushing for out of state incorporation are basically those that are selling those services.

Well you are more likely to get credit through a credit union than a bank, however ymmv in which of those you have listed are the "best". It is most likely going to be a "harder" approval with cap 1 or discover biz, not to say that you should not do it. Some have said that one of the cap 1 cards looks like it is giving out one of the higher limits at the moment, but it does require excellent credit. So it is going to depend on your situation.

Personal Bankruptcy And Business Credit
ouchthatburns replied to Canthonymve's topic in Business Credit
There is certainly business credit you can get-trade lines with various companies/vendors, however you will likely be unable to get any bank LOCs (lines of credit) or visa/mastercards without a decent personal credit score, whether you have filed for bankrupcy or not...and if you have, it is extremely unlikely. -
Line of Credit -- odd suggestion by the bank
ouchthatburns replied to venom999's topic in Business Credit
Well I would give it a minimum of six months, but a year would be better. However in the mean time you definitely need to work on improving your personal credit scores. I would strongly recommend that you review information in the personal sections on this site on how to improve your personal scores.
