Thanks for the replies all! I'm only using the TFC for the DF's; not for the CRA's or FOAD's. All but 2 are to CA's and not the OC's Yes, when I state 'Zombie' I am talking about a FOAD and yes, they were sent to the addresses found on the report I pulled just prior to drafting the letters. For the CRA's, I am disputing via physical CMRR letter and I am not disputing the same information that I did over a year ago. I'll hit up the TX thread again. It's been a long while since I've read that.

31+ days ago I fired off a bunch of CMRR letters. I'm slightly confused on my next steps, though. I am in Texas and know of (and have invoked) the Texas Finance Code and Texas Deceptive Trade Practices act. Here's briefly what I have done and where I am at: Letters to the CRA's. All three were received and have been at least 31 days since being signed. - TU and EX have only sent a generic 'we are looking in to this...' letter - EQ sent a letter saying they won't be investigating because everything has already been verified (no, I have NOT disputed with them in at least a year) No information on my CR's has changed; not even the old/incorrect addresses I requested to be removed I believe the next step is to sue? Do I have to send an ITS letter first or give any sort of grace period before submitting to the county? Had a few "Zombie" letters sent out. - 2 returned to sender for undeliverable address - Still waiting on 45 day window after signing to expire How do I handle the return to sender? I looked up the most recent address I could find the day I drafted the letters. The remaining letters were standard DV/Verification letters. All have been at least 31 days since being signed - 1 Verified correctly (a medical collection) so I am attempting a PFD next since it is only $100 - 1 replied stating they could not find my name or account number in their system. They wanted me to send my Social Security Number; which I did NOT do. This was the OC, not a CA. - Remaining have had no contact I believe I now wait an extra 15 days and send a follow-up/ITS, including a copy to the bond holder? How do I handle the account in which they cannot find any information on me in the OC system?

Yes, I have done the free report in the past year. I went to the Experian site and in the lower middle area it stated: 3 Bureau Credit Report and Scores See your Experian, Equifax® and TransUnion® credit reports and scores in one easy-to-read report. So that is what I ordered, figuring that the individual reports from each CRA directly are $11.50, the price difference of $5 was worth the convenience of getting all 3 reports at the same time and at the same place. Everything was still pointing at Experian.com. Nothing was stated as a credit monitoring service and no monthly recurring charge was noted anyway. I just went back to log in, and instead of being on Experian.com, it has not referred me to freecreditreport.com. Sure looks like I was certainly taken for a ride...

Thanks Mariuszh. I guess I did something wrong because I ordered my reports from Experian directly and didn't get a report number or full account numbers either. Waste of $40! Do I need to get a snail-mail copy or what?

I've tried to find information about this in all of the pinned posts but I haven't been successful. When I started to send out my letters, I was going off of the truncated (1234xxxx) account numbers that my credit monitoring site reports. I fired off a large round of letters and received a reply from one of the CA's fairly quickly stating that I did not provide enough information for them to be able to locate the account and that I needed to provide the full account number before they can honor the validation request. Is this true or are they blowing smoke? Thanks!

Thanks Moon. I opted out this morning after readying WhyChat's stuff. I guess it sounds like I'm in pretty good shape to start rolling on some letters.

I use mine monthly for medical, my daughters orthodontics, and even for veterinary. I pay it off every few months (I try to stay ahead of the deadline for the deferred interest). I have never asked for a CLI so I was surprised when I logged in one day and noticed me limit had increased to $2800. It's been about a year since I got the card so maybe they did a yearly review? I don't know... I ordered/requested my hard copy reports yesterday so we will see if a hard actually shows up when they come in the mail, but I still haven't seen a hard on my credit monitoring and it's been just shy of a month.

Both have already been done SBA. I'm in the process of going though all my old letter templates and trying to remember which one went with which scenario. Still a lot of re-reading to do.

I need to spruce up my credit now that it's been a couple of years after a pretty nasty divorce (scores in my sig are very old and invalid) so I'm back and reading up on things to refresh my memory on the steps to take. I still have my old letter templates, but I need to make sure they are still applicable and find out if there any new methods. In the meantime, if you could give me a word or two of advice on what actions to take for the below TL's, that might help jump start me back into the game. I have A LOT of stuff to take care of, so any quick help is appreciated! Oh, and I am in Texas (and I know how well that works in my favor!) Just started working on my credit again and happened to stumble across this thread. I got an auto $1000 CLI less than a month ago without a hard pull (not that I have seen through my credit monitoring, anyway. Will be pulling new reports next week, though).

I checked my mail today and I found a nice large envelope from the IRS. EEK! They are auditing me for the 2009 tax year. Apparently I had an alleged creditor report a 1099-C to them (1099-C means 'cancellation of debt'). Now, I keep ALL tax documents I receive in a fire safe (forms from banks, from the mortgage company, from employers, from insurance, you name it. If it even looks like it might be an IRS form, I keep it). I have never thrown a single one out since I started the practice in 2002 (due to a simple audit in 2001). I went through every single document and I NEVER received that 1099-C. Regardless, I'm not sure it would even matter. The name that the IRS shows on this audit is "Preferred Credit, Inc". I was able to track this down back to August of 2005 when we purchased a Kirby vacuum. We decided we didn't like what product we got for the money, so we had Kirby come back and get the paper weight of a machine. It was January of 2006 when they took it back. The entry always existed on my credit report until we bought our first home in January of 2008. Around November or December of 2007, I finally got the entry removed from all 3 reports by using the due process (DV letters, etc). Fast forward about 3 years later and that is where we are sitting today. How in the world does a company send the IRS a form 1099-C 3 years after a debt has been removed from my reports (and I verified today that they still remain off the reports)? Worse yet, it has been over 5 years since the initial purchase and return! My question is this: How do I dispute this with the IRS, or is it even worth it to dispute? The amount the IRS says I owe is $583 on the $1556 reported by the stupid CA on their 1099-C. Thanks in advance!

Trying to clean up my girlfriend's credit and we have an account on there named "CC Waco". It also has a name of "CREDIT BUREAU COLLECTI" and also says "MEDICAL" in one of the comments. She can't remember (or doesn't know) anything about it, nor the amount, nor the date opened. Can anyone provide some help or have any ideas? Thanks!

Fully expecting there to be more. I'm 99.9% sure they're going to report on my credit for this, but I'll be ready.
-
Did they credit you the 375? I sure hope so! They are doing a full investigation, but the bank manager said she couldn't see any reason why it wouldn't, but to give it about 3 days. They're also supposed to be refunding the $75+ in fees that were also charged along side it.

Got a report filed and being investigated. Also got a new account created at Chase, no questions asked! Forgot to ask them about rerouting my direct deposit, but I'll go back up there tomorrow and ask. I put in the deposit change with work and asked them to expedite (awaiting a reply) for this week. Finally, I pulled all three credit reports and luckily there is nothing new to report. I'll give it a month and pull again to make sure. Thanks everyone for your help. It all seems pretty obvious now, but I was in panic-mode and wasn't thinking clearly or logically. Thanks again!
