  1. I went from mid 500s to ~700 in four months, so I know it can be done. I didn't have as many baddies, but I didn't have anything positive either. Can you get on as an AU on a couple of accts with long, good history--parents maybe? I got on a couple of my MIL's accts as an AU and my scores jumped a bunch. I've read lots of posts from people that got med collections deleted using Whychat's method. I had good luck getting rid of my unpaid medical collection by offering PFD (pay for deletion).
  2. The CA is Franklin Collection. Can you share which PFD letter you used? I have one I'm dying to have removed.
  3. My DH has a settled CO from Discover reporting only on EX. He settled for deletion with a CA in 2002. The CA appparently deleted it from the other two CRAs, but did not delete from EX. EX also shows the amount charged off as the full balance, not the full balance less the amount paid for settlement. Does the "clock" tick from the 30 day late date or the date he settled with the CA? I want to dispute as obsolete if the clock started ticking from Oct. 2000. Here is how it is reporting on EX: Creditor's Statement: Account legally paid in full for less than full balance. Account History: Charge Off as of May 2001 to Jul 2002 180 days as of Apr 2001, Mar 2001 150 days as of Feb 2001 120 days as of Jan 2001 90 days as of Dec 2000 60 days as of Nov 2000 30 days as of Oct 2000
  4. Has anyone ever had trouble closing a Cap 1 acct? We are about to pay off and close DH's acct with them. I have read a bunch of horror stories about trying to close accounts with them. Apparently, they do things like claim to have never received the final payment and then tack on late fees, etc. Or they claim you have some credit insurance or something that you don't even know you have and keep charging your account without your knowledge and 3 mos later you get a statement with a bunch of late fees. His CRs show never late status with them and we don't want them to do anything to mess with it. Tell me your Cap 1 horror stories about closing your account or any strategies for avoiding their tricks.
  5. I will put my letter in the mail tomorrow. Thank you so much for your help. ETA: One more thing--The letters are addressed to my married name that I haven't used since my divorce 17 years ago. Does this have any bearing on what I should say in my letter? The name is still listed on my CRs but no TLs are tied to it. Since I just found CB this week and started learning about all this, I haven't had time to get the old names deleted from my reports yet.
  6. I will put my letter in the mail tomorrow. Thank you so much for your help.
  7. It's been over 30 days. Can I still send them the DV? I don't remember when the first letter came. It's been within 2-3 mos. I knew it was for an ancient debt and threw it away (I just found CB this week). The 2nd letter is dated 03/26.
  8. The CA is Arrow. They are offering a "settlement" for 25% of the orig. amount. The settlement amount is around $150. What do I do if they re-age it?
  9. I recently got a letter from a CA trying to collect on a 17 yo debt. This thing is long gone from my CRs. Can the new CA put it back on if they recently bought it?
  10. Thank you for this great site. I've gotten so much info here. Here's my problem (one of them, anyway : DH pulled his reports for the first time ever. There is a CO on there from Capital One for an account he has no knowledge of. All three CRAs report it as a settled account. EX reports as $656 and the other 2 report it as $235. they all have the same acct number. This has to be some kind of error. The only acct he has ever had with Cap1 is his current acct in good standing opened AFTER the DOLA on the COs. He's had it since 2004. What is the best way to go about getting this bogus CO off his CRs? Should he call Cap1 first, or dispute with the CRAs? If he does a dispute with the CRAs does he run the risk of squeezing a lemon off Cap1 and have them screw with his real account? Also, how does one obtain a hard copy of a credit report that would show the full account number? Thank you so much for any advice you can give me!
