Thanks for the replies! I now know where to begin and have the time to get started this weekend.

Thanks for the reply! I live in Iowa.

Hi I haven't been on the forums for several years and needless to say my credit shows my negligence. I opened an account with Target in 2007. I stopped making payments in 2011 and the account was last reported (from Target) as a CO in 2013. In 2013, a CA named JH Portfolio bought the account. I don't remember receiving any letters. Where do I begin on this type of situation? I know it is simple and I've been reading Psych Doc's series, but my brain is foggy. Will the Target reporting go away if the CA deletes? Any brief advice is appreciated!! Erin

Thanks for the replies! I don't know if she has any loans, but I wouldn't doubt if one of her family members put her name on something shady. I'm shocked that if Buffalo is known for this type of activity that the state of New York hasn't done something about it. These people could certainly cause a lot of heartache! The situation reminds me of the movie "Maxed Out". Erin

Anyone heard of these scum? They called my mother in law's work and told her supervisor that there was an "active court summons" against her. They also said they would deliver it to her work. The name on the message was "Joseph Vollmer" address: PO Box 478 Buffalo New York phone 877-697-8919 Thanks! Erin

Could be Snark....I had my neighbor call them and ask for their address. They wouldn't give it to her unless SHE identified herself...so I guess they could be in Illinois or Atlanta OR New York! What kind of firm is afraid of giving an address. Oh right, an ILLEGAL one:)
-
Thanks Beli:) Yes, I also kept coming up with Atlanta....but that almost looked too professional compared to the slimy phone calls. The woman claimed to be a pre-legal mediator named <Megan> <Lundy>. Will have to keep searching for a address.

I know that they are really slimy bottom feeders, but I can't find an address for them. I have never received anything in the mail from them, but they called my son's cell phone and left him a long detailed message saying that they were a pre-litigation firm and unless I worked with them they were going to file suit, etc.,etc.. The woman said she could give my son this information because he "must be my husband" numbers they called from 716.....650-5682 877.....463-2086 I think they must be a morphed version of another jdb from New York....BCR Any info is appreciated! Thanks, Erin

In addition to third party disclosure, are they also in violation of; "Section 807(2) prohibits falsely representing either "(A) the character, amount, or legal status of any debt" because they gave a "docket" number to the secretary...this leads one to believe that the alleged debt is in the court system??
-
Hi, Thanks for the replies! I didn't record because I was on my cell phone....I live in Iowa, is it legal to record a conversation? Do I have to tell them I'm recording?

The Vision Credit Solutions scumbags called my work today....told the secretary that I needed to call them immediately because of a "docket # blah, blah, blah). Poor secretary was worried!! I did call them (Don't worry, I did not give them ANY information except for the work telephone number that they had called..no name, address, nothing.... I also blocked my phone so they wouldn't have the number). I only called because I have to send them a cease and desist because I can't have these type of phone calls at work. I simply asked them for their address, because the message they left with the secretary didn't contain a business name.... Of course the man I talked with was quite rude...rambling about pressing charges, fraud and crossing state lines!! He refused to give me an address and he quickly told me a company name that presumably sounds like an attorney's office. When I again asked him for his address, he stated that if I would just contact my attorney, I would know that things like this are only handled over the phone...they don't play "mail tag". salamander! I again asked for an address and he hung up on me:) As I said, I need to send a C & D, so I called back, again blocking my number. It must be a small "attorney's office" because I got the same guy. Once again he would not give me his address, and he told me that if I called them again he would sue ME for "harrassment". I have searched by the phone number given to the secretary and I come up with various locations. I want to make sure that I contact the right place with the right type of letter. I can't have these nut jobs calling my work Anyone dealt with these losers before? Thanks, Erin

Thanks Brian!! You are always so helpful. Hopefully, the final 2 contract questions; could there possibly any strange rules specific to Iowa? Also, would it help to have it notiarized or something? ....really don't see the need for a lawyer because it will be a 'done' deal....I will either get a loan (if possible) or the seller will have to finance the property for awhile. It is a house that I love and don't want to miss out on!! I know that you do FHA loans...is the minimum credit score still 620? Still working on credit score for the next week to two weeks before I apply. I make $50,000 a year, credit cards I could pay off, but I do have student loans that will have a payment of around $400 a month.

Thanks for the helpful answers the last time I asked a similar question! Unfortunately, I still do not understand what I, or the seller for that matter, need to do to complete a signed purchased contract by April 30th. I can access contract forms, but I am afraid that they will not be sufficient and "legal" in the state of Iowa. Any links? or suggestions? Thanks!! To refresh memories...The seller and I agree on the sales price and condition of the house.....we really just need help with paperwork and loan.

""If you buy the home for $1 and you 'think' it is worth $10, the bank will only loan you on the purchase price of $1. I believe you have to wait one year before you can extract the estimated equity of $9 by refinancing."" I know that the owner is simply interested in getting what he has spent on the house. He bought it very cheap and put some nice improvements into it. He would like to get $80,000, but I'm positive the house would appraise at $100,000 or above. I have read in the past that lower credit scores often can not get 100% of the value of the house. I was hoping that the increased value of the house would improve my chances of getting a loan.

Thanks for the replies! Vintage, do you mean penalties from the seller? The seller is very motivated and I know that the home is worth a good chunk more than he is selling it for. I am hoping the the equity, plus some type of down payment will help my not so perfect credit (I have a ReCent paid medical judgment....no BKs, FCs or car loans)
