Thanks all who posted This is what I thought I just wanted to make sure. The problem I have is my stepfathers (son) his only legal heir, is going to sign the house over to me so I can cover the funeral and misc expenses, I just needed to know if I am obligated to pay this debt. I wasnt sure if there was some kind of law that say I have to pay a 15 year old debt because he is deceased. its been a while since I have been involved with the credit clean up so I needed to refresh my memory

Hello all, Its been a while since I have posted I need some advice, I have been caring for my sick mother for the past year this is the reason I havent been able to post My mother and stepfather owned a house jointly, My mother died february 12th, My stepfather put half the house in my name as tennants in common. My stepfather died march 7th now I have this house. This house is the only thing he had as far as an estate goes. And there are no other bills. My question is I just received a bill from RMJ Acquisition LLC saying he owes 2600 original creditor Citibank. Now I know this debt is between 15-20 years old they havent contacted him in atleast 10 years. no payments has been made and no contact what so ever does the same rules apply for someone trying to get money out of an estate? They offer their condolences yeah right these people what do they do read the obituaries How the heck do they send a bill to me I'm not even his legal heir oh by the way there is no probate or no will any help regarding this will be much appreciated thanks in advanced

collection account can only stay on your CR for 7 years, SOL is how long the creditors have to sue you 2 totally different things If you have collection accounts with the CB over 7 years dispute: reason absolete, they have to remove anything over 7 years I hope I said this right but im sure someone with more experience will chime in

we are closing on the 30th of this month also hope everyone the best of luck and congrats to all

I just want to update this was my first real post on creditboards. I was a wreck back then. but it explains a little bit about a loan/ student loan, and what we were going through a year ago http://www.creditboards.com/phpBB2/viewtop...der=asc&start=0 Ok so ive posted that my husband and I were approved for a mortgage. I just got a phone call from our mortgage broker. She wanted to let me know she received a letter from the lawyer that represented the creditor for this so called student loan, who also got a default judgment on us in 98. This letter states that we dont owe any money on this judgment and in fact did file BK on this debt in 96 no money is owed. now im even more confused, dont get me wrong I'm glad she received this letter, but I dont understand how they got a judgment and now all of a sudden we dont owe them. By the way this debt is listed in the BK papers as a discharged debt. my question is, the only report its showing on is EX should I send them the letter from the lawyer and a copy of our BK papers to get this removed I disputed this with TU and it was deleted. EX verified over 6 months ago? thanks for any input

Hello all I just got a big chuckle, so I thought I would share. We have been approved for a morgtage. So me and the mortgage broker was casually talking, she was telling me about all the people she has helped credt wise. she told me she had a lady interested in a home she was selling, and so she ran her credit, she said the lady had medical bills from 10 years ago still on her report. She said she couldnt get her financed. I said collection accounts can be removed after 7 years. DRUMROLL PLEASE.......she told me most people believe they can be removed after 7 years. they can only be removed if they are paid collections. I wasnt going to argue with her. Im waiting to close on this house at the end of the month, then im going to send her some much needed information. If she is in the business of helping people with credit issues, I believe she needs a crash course in creditboards.com. If she only could have seen are credit reports a year ago. She might change her story.

my husband and I were dealing with 3 bogus medical bills the hospital said we owed. we fought with the hospital and collection agency for 2 years. we actually owed 380.00, but they put 2 TL for the amount of 1400 and 297, we told them we were not going to pay them until they fixed our reports. we are in the process of buying a house so we had to get them taken care of. My husband got the number for the president and CEO for the hospital, called him at 9 pm explained the situation, it was resolved the next day. He pesonally hand typed a letter while we was sitting in his office stating these were bogus bills and we didnt owe the hospital anything. we handed him 380.00 cash for the letter. and the actual bill we owed. I received another collection letter this week, I called the hospital they put me through to the supervisor immmiedtly. she called me back and appologized and said I would never hear from them or the collection agency again. there is alot more to this story but this is just the basics I love stories like this, please keep us informed. go get em

hopefully whychat will chime in, but if im not mistaken, if you asked the CA for valadation, you waved your hippa rights. You gave the Collection agency permission to get those records. Thats why it is said to never talk to the CA. Im not to hip on HIPPA  but that is what i seem to believe.

Over a year ago I found this site, I was deppressed with our credit situation. I never believed we could ever be home owners. Well we put a down payment on some land, and we put a down payment on a house we are building. We are going to be home owners, I cant thank you guys enough. My husband was not to involved with the credit clean up. He didnt really care to much, but now he is thanking me. He went from a 560/580, to 670/680. The mortgage lady told him he had A+ credit. we are going with a VA loan at 5.5% rate. And we are truely excited. All you newbies out there please believe this can work for you, All I can say is read, read, read. When you get tired of reading, read some more. It will sink in, and you can do it. Again thank you CreditBoards, this would not have been possible, if it were not for this wonderful site, and all you knowlegable people. Thank you for opening my eyes.
