Hi! I've been searching, but I haven't been able to find an answer here yet. I have a USAA credit card with about 14K in debt that I'd racked up back in 2004 - 2007 while moving from one state to another, bills, etc. They closed the acct in 2007 after I became unemployed. I ended up using unemployment tpancake payments until unemployment ran out. I managed to find side jobs and make payments up until about August of last year. I've called and told them that I'd like to do a lower minimum payment plan, but they can only do that for a year, and now they're saying that they will charge-off at the end of April 2012. What are my best options right now? Do I have any? Should I continue to call and try to get a lower monthly payment? Should I just let them charge off and continue to live on cash? I have no active CCs, and I've been living by cash since 2007. Does USAA sue for CC debt? Any help or experience would be appreciated.

The Facts: I'm interested in purchasing the newer model of my car. However, my credit score is kind of on the low end (EQ = 614 - TU = 615 - EX = 659) due to a 30 day delinquency that was recently reported in August 2009. Before August, the scores in my Signature were pretty OK...and I was on my way to my 700 Score that I wanted. Granted, there are no other delinquencies in the past 38 months, no collections, no baddies...nothing. else. negative. **I do have high utilization... Someone is interested in purchasing the car that I have now. This will cover my loan payoff amount and give me about a $2000 down payment on the new car. The Question: How long after I've paid the loan payoff, will the credit bureaus take to notice that it has been paid off and in good standing... Thereby raising my score and lowering my utilization? I'd love to get into the new car at a lower rate... and having that paid off, will only help. Maybe I can stick close to home and not go anywhere (ask anyone for a ride) for a few weeks until the credit scores are updated?? But how long do you think THAT will take? Thanks for more info!! I really appreciate it!!

Understood.. But if accepted/granted credit...will that negatively affect the score now? Or is it better to wait til it posts to apply? -

Hi! Yes, I have the score watch and 3-1 credit monitoring with equifax for alerts...but nothing yet. You need to check your real reports to be sure. How were you notified? I called the credit card company to find out what was due... -

Hi! I hope that you guys can help me with this dilemma.. I was just informed that my credit card was closed by the grantor... However, it still has a positive balance on it, and I'll be paying the balance down to Zero... This was the last account that I've opened since 2007. It was opened when my score was about the same as it is now... I have not opened any new accounts since 2007. I'm concerned that my score will drop from 700 once this posts to all 3 credit bureaus. Should I open a new credit card with someone else while my score is so high BEFORE it posts to offset the impeding drop? Thanks for more info guys! These boards have helped me so much over the past 2-3 years...you guys are great!

I pretty much agree with all that's been said here. In all townhomes that I've rented under Equity Residential, they pull credit scores. I'm looking to rent an office space, and the landlord just pulled a SafeRent report, so hopefully it will be okay...

I'd be curious to know this too. I'm wondering how many times it too many to apply for a Citi Card... without the FICO taking a large hit.

This is a good question. Any takers?

I actually moved and cruised *bahamas* in the same month = BAD CREDIT CARD USAGE - but I PIFed one of the cards, and I'm paying down another of them.... I'm wondering, do credit scores go up just as fast as they go down, if they're paid off in a few months?
-
Okay, then that's the plan....if I can't pay in full, i'll just make larger payments than normal to get it down....
-
I've always wondered this...only because I've found varying answers... Is it better to pay OFF a credit card...or to pay it down to say... $10.00?

any help?
