  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys I've talked to my friend a bit more and he himself found a website that might help him with this problem and I think he's going to file an issue through here. http://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/
  2. Actually they do, I'm gonna respect his privacy and not give out his name on here but I will say he's a JM and his dad is a MJ. However his dad did not file BK and from what I'm hearing the BK and mortgage is the only errors on his report that he knows of however that's pretty big issues in my opinion. I'm talking to him about it now he is very frustrated and at this point in time doesn't want to fool with it. I told him he most likely needs to seek an attorney and I wonder if he could sue the credit agencies for such a massive mistake. He however is struggling money wise right now and can't afford to seek an attorney at this time. I just don't think he can fix this himself though and apparently can't afford to hire somebody to fix the mistakes for him. Apparently in 2003 when he was getting his car he had some errors on his report but he took care of them and now they are coming up again. He says the BK on his file was related to the house mortgage and apparently refinanced or something. No credit card debt or anything else is showing just those two items. His theory is that somehow during the refinance of this person's house that perhaps due to some sort of error it was added to his SSN. I think this is unlikely but I suppose possible. This is far beyond my area of knowledge.
  3. Here is the situation a friend came to me for advice as well he's not the most financially intelligent person when it comes to credit. He knows I dealt with some problems and had bankruptcy in the past and have been rebuilding my credit etc... Well he's starting a credit history late in life. He really hasn't dealt with credit since he paid off his car in 2003. So lately he's been looking for a credit card and has been denied for a loan as well. He finally got approved for some sort of Capital One partially secured card with a low limit of $300 I believe. Well when he applied for the loan at one local bank he was told that there was a fraud alert on his credit report that says his social security number was issued before his birth. He also has tried to pull his credit report online and nearly all of them will not let him I remember on one he said he failed the questions and got an error message that it couldn't be pulled. The bank also informed him that they are showing a BK in his name and a house financed, he has never owned a house nor filed for bankruptcy. Now he told me the BK in his name was filed in 1992 which he would have been 12 years old at that time. I consider myself to be at least a semi smart person when it deals with fiances and credit but I honestly have no idea what to tell him. I've never heard of such an issue and I've been doing some Google searches trying to help him out but I can't come up with anything. I'm hoping somebody on here has heard of such a thing or something similar. Some of you on here are far more experienced than me and perhaps heard of or dealt with something at least semi similar. So what has happened and what does he need to do to fix all this mess? Note: Something I forgot to bring up and just now remembered: He had to call Capital One for final approval on the credit card and he said they did not show a bankruptcy for him but his local bank did. Obviously they must use two different agencies for credit and one is showing the BK while the other one is not. His credit file just sounds inconsistent to me and well full of errors.
