I recently and unexpectedly inherited a significant amount of money and would like to buy a home. I happen to live in one of the most expensive areas in the country and am unable to move for at least the next 6 years. Home prices for what I would buy here are between $800k - $1.2M. I could do a downpayment of up to $400k (and would have over $600k in assets remaining from the inheritance). I've been self employed for a long time and have done a great job at showing very little income since I assumed I would not be able to afford to buy anything around here. I had a BK discharged in 2009 after divorce. Have a perfect payment record since then (never late). Credit scores currently around 700. Curious if I would be able to qualify for a loan with those numbers. Thanks in advance for your input!

No pretty sure I want to do a balance transfer TO my friend's account. I owe her money. I have 0% BT offers but no 0% cash advance offers. So I'm not sure this will work for me.

Searched and couldn't find anything on this. Sorry if it's been discussed elsewhere. I owe a friend some money and just got a new Discover IT with 0% 12 months on BT. Can I do a BT directly to her credit card account? Do they care whose account the transfer is going to? Doesn't say anything in the Discover FAQ so I think it's ok. But wanted to check here just in case. Thanks!

Sweet. got approved for $2500 on the Barclays Arrival. He wouldn't go higher than that. But that's ok. It means I went 5 for 5! Thanks again Mendelssohn! Now you tell me! Got a guy who wouldn't budge on the credit line. But I'm in and can grow from there!

Thanks Mendelssohn. I hadn't called them. I'll do that right now!

Big thanks to this forum for all the help... most of it just from reading and researching other threads and some of it specific advice and suggestions. I just did my first big round of apps in several years. Approved for Cap 1 Spark Cash for Biz - $15k Approved for Cap 1 Venture - $20k Approved for Discover IT - $5500 (chatted with an operator for a CLI he said I needed to wait a few months) Approved for Amazon (Sync) - $1500 Denied for BarclayCard Arrival + The Cap 1 lines are BY FAR my largest lines. I was applying with just 1 Cap1 card with a $2200 CL (never late in 2+ years). So I'm really surprised at the starting lines. Although I also have a car loan with them (at 12.5%!) never late in 2 1/2 years. I've got a BK from 2009 - I did IIB Cap1 in it, but they have given me a serious second chance! FICO 08 scores are EX - 690 (frozen) | EQ - 699 | TU - 705. I'll update credit pulls DB once I see where they all pulled from. FYI: Initially got a wait 7 - 10 days notice on both Cap 1 apps. Called the app processing line I was given by the chat operator and needed to update the address. Once she did it, got the instant approvals. Here's that number. 1-800-903-9177 Thanks again for all the awesome info here.

Refi now or wait until I purchase new in 6-months

Ok thanks Marv! Maybe I'll put together an app for you to see if you think I'd qualify. As I said that might accelerate my upgrade. -

That's what I figured... I've waited this long! Curious what kind of scores/income you need to qualify for Ford's 0% Summer Financing Deal. Would I even be close? If so, I might accelerate my timeline. -
Probably know the answer to this but wanted to check with the experts! I've got a 2 1/2 year loan with Capital 1 at 12% ($349/month). I was 2 years post BK when I got it. Perfect payment record in the 2 plus years. I've been wanting to refi for a while but haven't pulled the trigger. Now I'm wondering if I should go for it or wait for another 6-months and just get a new loan when I'm planning to upgrade. My Fico Scores are EX - 690 | EQ - 699 | TU - 705 Would it be worth the savings for the next 6-months? Would refinancing now impact my ability to get a new loan in 6 months? Thanks for your input.

Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. And hadn't seen that mentioned in the credit forum. Maybe I need to browse the BK forum. I'm definitely willing to swallow my pride and get a secured card to get back in with Amex and Chase. Probably won't ever go back to BofA. Our relationship left a bad taste in my mouth. They did some things that felt really slimy!

Sorry, meant CreditCheckTotal. I'm pretty sure those are real FICO scores.

Thanks Konrad! Curious why Spark Cash instead of the Miles?

I'm getting ready to apply for some new cards. The goal is to raise my available credit and get access to rewards cards to run many of the monthly expenses - both biz and personal. I'm just starting to get serious about taking control of my credit after 4+ years of resigning myself to bad credit after a December 2009 Chapter 7. Wish I had gotten my head out of the sand and gotten over here earlier. I would love a second opinion on the cards I'm thinking of applying for. All 3 of my scores just went up after paying down my 1 Cap 1 card to 1% utilization and getting a CLI to $2250. So I'm now at EX - 690 | EQ - 699 | TU - 705. Those are FICO8 scores from CreditTracker. I've had 2 1/2 years of on time payments with a Cap 1 Auto Loan and 2+ years of on time payments with their credit card. Ex is frozen as per Konrad while I try to get an old parking ticket collection removed. (Though at the time the score was at 638. It bumped up 30 points when I brought down my utilization and got a CLI on the Cap1 card so it may make sense to unfreeze it now). TU has 2 recent INQs (May and August) EQ has 1 INQ in March. Priorities for me are at least one rewards/travel card I can use to run most of my business expenses through. I can run close to $5k through a rewards card each month and PIF. (Kicking myself that I didn't do this sooner!) Also, a rewards card for personal expenses would be great. Travel would be preferred, but cash back works. I've been reading up on some of the BlackList experiences here. Should I stay away from all the banks I burned in the BK including BofA, USBank, AMEX & Discover? My wife had a Citi card that was included in our BK. Would that show up as a potential BL for me as well? I also had a CO with Chase many years ago - like 18. I've read that they have a LONG memory. Should I stay away from them as well? I've researched the CreditPulls Database and come up with these as possible options: Since I've got two good lines with Cap 1 I figure they're a good first bet (yes I realize a lot of people here hate them!) But I thought of going for the Spark Business Miles Rewards and the Venture Rewards (says I'm prequalified for the Venture with 40,000 bonus miles with a $3k spend in the first 3 months). I'd love to get an Amazon card (I run a lot of biz purchases through them) but it sounds like Chase is their bank. Would they immediately deny me because of that old CO? It looks like I'm on the borderline for the NASA FCU rewards card. Worth a try? Barclay denied me back in May. I wasn't active here then so didn't know to try for a Recon. Should I give them another shot? There are people getting the Arrival + with scores at or below where mine are. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance for your recommendations.

Searched and didn't find anything on this. Wondering if anyone has noticed if there are better days of the week/month to apply for new credit.

Thanks AKAGeorgiaGirl That's good info about the Cap1 Update. My bill date was 8/14 so it sounds like by the end of this week it should update. I just got the half price discount on Credit Check Total for the next 5 years so I can pull another score check early next week!
