I have a paid collection that if from December 2007 that is still on my EX CR. I tried "not mine" last year and they sent back letter stating, you already tried that and it is yours. LOL.

Can anyone give me any pointers on how to get it off?

Thanks

When is it set to fall off?

How were the dispute results worded? Verfied, Frivilous, etc?

Frivilous...not sure about the fall off date, it was reported in 12/07, so is it 2014?

try this: call experian and get a human on the phone, go thru the report # and ID yourself.. after that ask if "that paid collection account" is reporting your SSN, if it IS NOT then dispute it as similar name or person...I bet it comes right off!!

If it is yours and they did report your SSN then u own it!!

Do I have to get a human to check this, its from auto taxes in the old city I used to live in. I paid it when they sent it, next thing you know the Collection was on my CR. Do you think I can just try to dispute with the similar name without checking?

yep, thats the best and fastest way..They'll say yes your SSN is tied to the "tradeline/collection" or no..If it isnt tied by your SSN then u are in good shape to dispute it as similar name or person..Chances are that if they didnt have your SSN tied to that, the data furnisher is not got have it to give. Cause if they have it they wouldve reported as well, so the only way to know is to call and ask!!! its 50/50

Ok. Can you point me in the direction to get a human on the phone at EX?

dispute it as similar name or person, what happens when u do that is EX sends notice electronically and waits to see what is provided (your ssn) 9 times out 10 if the data provider does have it they wouldve reported it, being that didnt report it that means they dont have it, thus it'll be gone real quick..After u dispute it check EX online thru review report again and it should be gone!!

Ok one last question. Should I dispute it over the phone or write a letter?

Is this an Experian-only trick, or would it work with EQ and TU as well?

Say Zero, have u disputed this before, and it comes back verified? im pretty sure the answer is yes..

Keep us posted with what happens..

Yes, as I stated above, it came back as frivolous.

I'm speaking with a human now and she is saying I cannot dispute it again. I disputed it once in 08, it came back verified & that it is. She says I need to contact the CA.

Any suggestions?

Umm thats BS, u need to tell them that it is a similar person or name..Or speak to the supervisor or the dept that handles that kinda dispute..

So I need to ask for the department that handles similar person or name disputes? She asked me do I need to speak with the department that handles it if its a family member, or something but I didn't think that is what I needed.

Have several district court (paid) collections showing on TU only. These are all with a local agency. I wonder if this SS issue will work? Not sure if the local courthouses have that info.

I went to the EX BBB listing & filed a complaint. I gave them my report number & told them how I tried have been trying to dispute the listing the way that DJW1 suggested. I then went on to explain how I have tried many times to call in to dispute it, but no one is allowing me to do so. I then told them how I am missing out on credit opportunities because of this false collection. I then threatened court because it is illegal blah blah blah.

Everything was in laymans terms. I didn't use any law codes. I didn't use a letter template.

I just spoke from the heart!

TOLD YA SO

Its funny how they claim "verified" but when u dispute it as similar person or name (provided your SSN # is NOT attached to tradeline in question) IT COMES RIGHT OFF YOUR EXPERIAN REPORT!!!

Thank you for all your help man!

Would this telephone dispute work with any account, or only a paid collection? Should you only check on maybe 2 accounts in one call? And then do you immediately say "these are not mine, they must be someone's with a similar name" or do you call back one more time to state that? (And if that's not how you say it, please give me the magic words!)

TU is a little tricky, i have personally seen people dispute "online" and "claimed" never rendered and it work it!!

Tu and EX have different "procedures"

I'm sorry, but I have trouble following the language in your posts. Are you saying this would not work with TU or EQ? Or just that it's pretty easy with EX, but more of a YMMV thing with the other 2?

this is how it works:

1. call experian and get a human on the phone

2. when asking about any tradeline weather negative or postive (what you dont know is if the reporting enitiy is actually report your SSN ALONG WITH THE TRADELINE) YOU want to KNOW IF

ABC card is "reporting your SSN", if they say "NO" then you in like flint..If they say yes then you OWN THAT TRADELINE WEATHER NEGATIVE OR POSITIVE...

3. So lets say they "experian" said "NO SSN reporting with that tradeline" then YOU PROCEED to say "I wanna dispute it as a (similar name or person)", they will proceed to forward you to another department and you should be good to go..Yes that method works for ANY tradeline, judgement, tax lien..AS long as they DO NOT REPORT your SSN, EXPERIAN WILL DELETE IT..

4. Will this method work for TU and EQ, yes and no their procedures for obtaining info is alittle different than EX...

5.DO NOT HANG UP, AND CALL BACK "EX" YOU WANNA DISPUTE IT AS SOON AS YOU FIND OUT THAT "WHATEVER IS REPORTING" DOESNT HAVE YOUR SSN TIED TO IT, U WONT BELIEVE HOW MANY COLLECTIONS AND CRAP I HAVE SEEN COME RIGHT OFF..... AFTER FIGURING OUT THAT THEY "EXPERIAN" CLAIMING (VERIFIED) AND THEY (REPORTING PARTY/OC/DEBT COLLECTOR) DIDNT HAVE MY SSN, CAUSE IF THEY DID THEY DAMN SURE WOULDVE REPORTED IT ALONG WITH THE "TRADELINE" ON THE EXPERIAN REPORT...

Excellent, very clear, thank you. Just one more 2-part question, though. With a single TL you ask to dispute. However, what if you have say 3 that you check on, and 2 are no and one is yes. Obviously you want to dispute the 2, but does it send up any red flags if you say, "Well, the 2 w/o my ssn are not mine so I want to dispute them as a similar name or person"? And then, do the dispute people ask you anything else, like is this similar name or person a relative, etc? Or do they just say "Ok, sir/ma'am, it's deleted for you!"?

Everything but the public records had our SSNs on it. :( Booo! I had dh dispute the PR as you suggest, but seeing as we'd previously added a statement to the thing that it had been paid before the judgement was rendered (pre CB), I have a feeling it will not be removed. But, if it is, then Yay! Fingers crossed for us!
