It is really disheartening to continually read post after post of new people getting the Shaft from D&B.

 

I went through the same sales / extortion pitch that a LOT of people have posted about here.

 

IE: buy our package or your D&B # is worthless / will be locked / marketing file only and so on.

 

I don’t know how a lot of people resolve the problems that they post about concerning D&B (buy something, avoid them whatever) I don’t remember seeing a lot of posts about how problems have actually been resolved.

 

Please keep in mind YMMV, I have never seen a definitive answer all post on how to deal with D&B.

 

I do know that people have posted here that they bought something fro D&B and still got screwed by them.

 

I’m going to give a brief outline of my dealings with them and add a little additional info I’ve never posted about before. (Because I’m just as scared of them as everyone else here is.)

 

OK, I decide to quit my job and go for it. I’ve been reading on the personal credit side for a while and check out the business board and I find very detailed instructions on starting my biz and building credit. One of the steps is “Get a DUNS #â€

 

I get my D&B # and a few days later I get the dreaded call, they tell me I need to buy something. Only one problem, I’ve read on the stickies, “You don’t have to buy anything†so I politely told the lady “I know I don’t have to buy anything†she reiterates that I do have to buy something! I reiterate “I’m not buying s**t.†Yes I said “s**t.†(This is the express lane to getting your D&B file locked) I have some minor anger issues.

 

Right after the D&B lady hangs up on me, I went to the BBB website for Tucson Arizona and filed a DETAILED written complaint. I included word for word accounts of my conversation (except for the “s**t†word) along with names and telephone #’s.

 

I filed the complaint under “deceptive sales practicesâ€.

 

I listed my desired resolution as “Unlocking my file and giving me access to eupdate†(password)

 

(I think that if I had asked for money or for them to change their sales tactics or a written apology that I would have gotten nothing!)

 

The BBB filed the complaint the same day “with no questions asked†they are well aware with the problems with D&B.

 

Some people may not know this but D&B and the Tucson BBB are located practically next door to each other in the same office park.

 

14 days later D&B answered the complaint, apologized to me, unlocked my file, gave me an Eupdate password, and actually “built†me a file.

This page will also show the info for D&B and there is a “file a complaint†link at the top of the page.

 

Keep in mind, they (D&:beee: must have done something wrong to YOU. You must file specifics of what they have done! Don’t make outlandish requests. Get your file straightened out and get on with your credit building.

 

After the complaint is resolved, D&B can’t retaliate against you for it. The BBB will tell you that if they do this you can immediately re-open your complaint and add the retaliation to it.

 

There is another route but I do not recommend it.

 

The resolution of my case got screwed up because of an internal problem at D&B. It seems that an employee there who was supposed to “Build†my file and email me my eupdate password had not done so. (They were probably busy trying to sell you something.)

 

When the BBB contacted me to close my complaint I refused to settle it because nothing had been done.

 

I then received several voicemail messages from the person at D&B that is in charge of all the pleasant people who constantly call us. I believe he is one of the sales V.P.’s. I spoke with him and emailed back and forth several times. He is the decider.

 

If you want to try and contact him (at your own risk) I will post his contact info below. I know he is aware and directing the sales tactics of the D&B reps so I wouldn’t try complaining to him and I would also not recommend mentioning CB.

 

I would just call and say I have a problem and was wondering if you could help me? Don’t bother telling him his reps are scumbags (he’s the one telling them to do it) When I spoke to him he was a bright, articulate guy and admitted nothing.

When I had problems I wrote a letter and sent in some documentation to their mailing address Priority Mail. It was fixed that day. I think I detailed this on my posts about Duns saying I didnt exist and how I fixed that.

 

This is what I normally do to resolve things : write. I personally dont use the phone at all, though I know a lot of people like to. I dont really trust to get anything fixed that route. 99% of the time I do everything in writing, including CLI, reconsideration,etc.

 

Jst thought I'd post because you mentioned you didn't know how some people went about resolving the issues.

Actually Greg, that's a great idea! I think I remember reading your post about this a few months back.

I filed my complaint tonight. Too many companies have told me they can't get the file (even with the DUNS number) or when reporting a payment, it claims it can't because the file "needs a revision."

 

This better work. I am tired of their games and with no EX file at all this is costing me time which is money.

I don’t really post here anymore. I felt my energies could be better spent building my bizz.

 

I received an E-mail about you responding to my post.

 

I remember reading your exploits back from your first post about the “Zuneâ€. The fact that you survived that bashing means that you at least have a significant amount of testicular fortitude! (You’ve got balls)

 

In order for you to file a BBB complaint, you need to have some knowledge that they have done something wrong to your biz.

 

From what you are posting, you know that your perspective creditors have denied you because they could not access your D&B file. You say that they state “your file needs revision†as being the reason.

 

This is NOT enough for a successful complaint!

 

Have you spoken with D&B? You must at least contact D&B first to confirm your file is locked and why.

 

“Your file needs revision†could mean any number of BS reasons but you must let D&B take the plunge.

 

If you have spoken with D&B and D&B has said that potential creditors are not able to view your file because you have not made a purchase with them. Or they will not be able to view your file until you make a purchase, you have a valid complaint.

I have emails from them where it states I can't have a "full" file until I buy their product. I never deal with such matters on the phone.

I talked with this guy today after confirming with exxon underwriters that my company was invisible in Duns system...

The exxon underwriter was very helpful she really tried hard to find us in Duns system with no luck..

So I called Duns and talked with this guy John Brakey..

He was bright as OJOY stated.He stated that there was a temporary hold on my File.And my reponse was Am I being pentalized for not purchasing credit builder..He said no not at all.

He said what that mean is that I will not get a rating unless I buy credit builder,but my paydex will auto create..I stated that the creditors cannot find me in DUNS system and he stated that they should see my basic company profile but not a comprehensive report...

He told me that the creditors should see my file now,and told me to call him when I am ready to purchase credit builder..

He asked how did I get his number..I told him by a google search..

This Crap is fustrating when they pull these tactics to get you to buy credit builder..

Isn't that extortion to say that you will not get a rating unless you by CB. We got one without it and one of their gurus told us to provide financials and we would get one. How weird.

I will go to the Tucson Better Biz Bureau if my file is not unlocked by Monday Morning,I hear DNB is right next door..

I don't know about you but I only live a few hours away. I am going to call them because they keep using my incompletely file as a reason that I need them. I've requested an update online and Biz #1 was updated but Biz #2 not. I truly believe they are holding it.

Guidelines
