Information from NADA Title & Registration Textbook 2004

Utah Lemon Law

Applies to leases and transfers as well as the purchase of new vehicles. The consumer must report problems to the manufacturer or agent within either the term specified in the express warranties or the 12-month period following delivery to the consumer, whichever is earlier. The defect “must substantially impair the use, market value or safety of the vehicle.” The vehicle must have been in for repairs for the same defect at least four times or out of service to the consumer for a total of 30 days in either one year, or the warranty period, whichever is less. The consumer must first go through any informal dispute settlement or arbitration procedure the manufacturer may have established. If the dispute is not settled, a complaint can be filed with the Department of Business Regulation, Consumer Protection Division. For further information please contact the Division of Consumer Protection at 160 East 300 South, Box 146704, Salt Lake City, UT 84114
