Information from NADA Title & Registration Textbook 2004

Connecticut Lemon Law

Substantial impairment to use, value or safety, must be repaired with a reasonable number of attempts. (Defects must be covered under the terms of the warranty.) A reasonable number of attempts is presumed when the same problem has been subject to repair four or more times within 2 years or 24,000 miles from the date of the vehicle’s delivery to the original owner, whichever is earlier, and the defect reoccurred, or when the vehicle has been out of service for repair for a cumulative total of 30 days or more, not necessarily all at one time, during the same period for a variety of defects, or, in the case of a safety defect (likely to cause death or serious injury), if the same problem has been subject to repair two or more times within one year from the date of original delivery or during the period of the express warranty, whichever is earlier, and the defect reoccurred, then the consumer is entitled to a replacement or refund. Consumers cannot be required to submit Lemon Law claims to manufacturer’s mediation or arbitration process unless the procedure is certified by the State Attorney General as complying with the Federal Trade Commission regulations and other requirements under state law. The consumer must report the problem directly to the manufacturer only if this requirement is stated clearly and conspicuously in the warranty booklet along with the address to which the notification must be sent. For additional information please contact the Department of Consumer Protection, 165 Capitol Avenue, Hartford, CT 16106
