How long should I wait before feeling safe with Chase?

Opened a Chase account without an issue, but I am afraid to put my direct deposit there. It's been about a week without an issue. Is there a certain point when I should feel safe? I have Chex entries, not sure about EWS. I requested a report. When do they check for this stuff? I figured they would when I attempted to open my account.

You could direct deposit or mobile deposit checks right away. Doing ACH transfers via your Chase account might trigger suspicion. But, they won't close your account. Just decline your transfers.

They would have checked ChexSystems or EWS when you opened your account.
If you have a smart phone or tablet, you should download Chase app.

I've wondered the same thing? I opened my account a lil over 2 weeks ago, and it's still open.

Are you sure about this? Because I apparently do have a baddie on EWS. I'm worried about this account getting closed at some point.

I have banked with chase. In my opinion there is just no reason in the world to bank with these people. Yes, they have nationwide branches and some cool features. Do you really want to keep yourself up at night wondering if they are going to freeze your money? Going to buy groceries and they decline your card? They won't even tell you why they close your account but they tell you its their business decision.

 

Chase is good at closing your account down the road, if you have negative entries... and there are countless threads on this forum about it.. But if Chase is the bank you picked, its a risk you take. These banks have no problem doing sweeps and closing accounts because you aren't a person to them, you are a possible risk and they would rather close your account then assume the risk.

 

Banks open these accounts, send you the debit cards and then close the account down later  - .. it makes no sense at all. But at the end of the day are you going to bank with them because of their cool logo, or do you think you should find a bank that doesn't attack its own customers and play with your money?

 

Find yourself a credit union. Bank locally where you can establish a relationship with people who make decisions instead of 'systems'. Keep your chase account open and don't get direct deposit in there. If down the road, after your EWS expires and you feel better... use it as your main bank.

 

Bottom line ... be careful..and don't put all your eggs in one basket.

As often posted in this forum, if you are on Chexsystems or EWS follow these best practices:

1.  Have one or more non-Chex, non-EWS backup accounts.

2.  Split your direct deposit. (If your account is closed or frozen - you may not have access to your funds).

3.  Don't use billpay or other supplemental services with a bank that uses Chexsystems or EWS.

4.  Stay away from card transactions that may trigger a security alert; gambling sites, casinos, etc.

5.  Monitor accounts daily, and report any fraudulent activity immediately.

6.  If you decide to close an account, back it up in writing.

 

Note: I use to bank with both Chase and Wells Fargo, but switched to a local credit union. I have a more personal relationship, and the fee structure is better.
