A Note About Chexsystems Reporting

When you dispute reports on Experian, Equifax or Transunion, there are a lot of variables and reporting fields that may have errors.

Chexsystems reporting is more cut and dried. When you review a report, look for incorrect amounts owed, dates, account numbers and identifying information. Also, if you were incorrectly reported for "fraud", dispute and send a 623 letter to the financial institution. **Although they remove negatives after 5 years, FCRA reporting guidelines still apply regarding the DOFD.

Getting removals is more challenging, but should always start with a goodwill negotiation with a manager or executive of the reporting bank. If efforts are not successful, maintain non-Chex primary and backup accounts.

**If you pay amounts owed on your report, the entry should update to a paid status. Some banks or credit unions will approve with paid accounts.

Identity theft claims and subsequent removals by Chex have always been handled appropriately without incident. I applaud them in that aspect.

Yes, I haven't received a high volume of complaints about ID theft compliance. The majority of issues I get emails about are amounts owed and "fraud" entries.
