I went into my favorite butcher shop today and picked up a couple of baseball steaks to eat for lunch tomorrow and the next day...  this is my favorite lean cut of beef.  It's just a bit fattier than a filet, and that makes all the difference.

While I was there I also succumbed to my desire for my favorite locally-made tortilla chips and a tub of the cheese dip that is so good it will wilt your permanent.  I'm going to have boobs by Christmas.

Did you know that El Indio isn't just a Tortilleria -- they have a restaurant on India a half block south of Washington.  It's a regular stop on my way out of the airport, if I land before 9pm.

I knew they had a restaurant.  I almost never eat Mexican food, so while I remember seeing it, it doesnt really register where it is.

A baseball cut is a top butt cut and should be fairly lean.

Sometimes its referred to as filet of sirloin.

Filed under "Something new learned on 12/11/2017". Any theories on the origin of the name?

I had to cheat, but:

The baseball cut gets its name from its rounded shape. This steak is cut from the center of the top sirloin. It's lean, thick and flavorful, similar to filet mignon, at a smaller price. A baseball cut steak is not commonly found in a grocer's meat case but the cut can be requested from a local butcher.

I also did not know this.

I learned about them from a restaurateur that cut up his own steaks.  It's usually one of those things you have to ask for from a butcher or if you know the guy that cuts the meat at a steakhouse.

Sadly, that restaurant Cricklewood burned down in the Santa Rosa firestorm.  I used to eat there a couple nights/week when I lived in the area.

I'm eating another pork chop from the grill.

Today's recap:

- Bowl of oatmeal

- 8-ounce baseball steak

- 8-ounce pork chop

You should add a scoop of Crisco®.
