I have two medical collections on my EQ report only, Just started the process, sent the pre-hippa letter, EQ has sat on it for about 2 weeks. Today I get an email from EQ asking me would I like to recieve the results of my dispute online ?

Well EQ,

No, I would not like to recieve my dispute online, it took me a whole hour to construct my unscannable to a computer, yet readable for a human. It took me 20 minutes to search google for aqua blue/green backgrounds, it took me even longer to play around with the watermark feature. Lastly, It cost me 3.40 to mail you my work of art......

There is not a Sam's chance in hell, that I would allow you to take the cheap and easy way of

  • Opting me in to online results forever
  • No paper trail
  • Preventing me from pursuing Hippa Violations

I just thought I'd share this with you all. They count on us being dumb.

I agree with this post. Do not click the link, for all the reasons stated in the OP.

I have a question: if you dispute online once, are you automatically always going to receive your results online from that point forward (regardless of whether or not you mail your disputes from that point forward)? I heard yes, and I just wanted to get a second opinion.

I had disputed online before finding CB, and I think that's why I even got the emails, but as long as I never clicked the link, I always got my results mailed.

Phew! I've never clicked a link, but I sure did click a little box that authorized getting my results emailed (to get through EQ's backdoor). The problem is that I actually followed through and filed a dispute online, so I was worried it was now "stuck" that way for all future disputes.

YEAH, i just got the same email too. NO WAY IM CLICKING IT EITHER. a week went by, and then i got a fraud alert in the mail and they told me i must resubmit my dispute with verification of ID. DELAY TACTIC. I feel like they did this because i didnt click their link and accept online results. so heck with it, im printing out all the confusing copies, and multiple return receipt numbers, and id's, and copies of copies of letters, and copies of reports, etc. the stack is like 1" thick now. GOOD. the more i add, the more confusing it becomes and perhaps they will give in and DELETE!!

Make sure you send them proof of your ID, a copy of your SS card, a copy of your drivers license and an ORIGINAL recent utility bill. If you give them ABSOLUTE proof of your identity they are more likely to give you the deletions you want.

I got the same email a couple days ago too, and had the same reservations about it. If I recall correctly, getting their free annual report online required creating an account - I think that's where they made the connection between my report and the email.

I'm going to take the same approach. I do want to hang on to this email for now, just to track activity on my dispute. I wish there was some way to tell Thunderbird to 'mark this message as a scam', which makes it confirm any link clicks with a warning. But I just did a quick search, and did not see any support for doing that.

Actually, I just saw a very evil difference in my email - mine has an unsubscribe option near the end:

"Unsubscribe: If you do not want to receive these emails, please click on this hyperlink to unsubscribe:"

The sinister part is that it's EXACTLY THE SAME link as the one labeled "To accept receipt of the results of your investigation online, please click on this hyperlink:"! It's like someone heard the old "To confirm, press any key. To cancel, press any other key" and didn't get the joke.

The links are separate, and I omitted the unsubscribe sentence. Apologies there.

But there is some method to the madness of these emails. So far 3 of us have admitted getting one in response to a anti-scan dispute.

LoL, i am starting to look at it like they admitted defeat and had to personally read it.

Good luck everybody!

you know what.... I did not check the links, but the thought crossed my mind that they would pull something sneaky like that. I told myself DO NOT click on ANYTHING it has Ebola. Although i planned on revisiting the email in the future after this dispute was over, and figuring out how to opt out of their emails. NOW i will be extra careful. I wonder if I could write them a letter demanding that they opt me out of future emails and send all communication in writing?

this reminds me, how do you feel about getting really technical with this ID verification? The last time they asked me for this info, I sent it, but i blacked out my eyes, mouth, drivers license number, weight, and height and put a big X through my sig. then i handwrote "private" next to each one of the blacked out spots. I did the same on the utility bill--blacked out amounts, account number, detailed info. Pretty much all that i left on both was my name, address, and dob. They accepted it last time. Im kinda worried about doing that now, seeing im getting so close. how about if i just black out my eyes and dollar amounts? or should i leave it alone? i just don't think they have the right to my picture.....

You can do whatever "blackouts" you wish to. However, the issue here is to prove your identity to the CRAs so that you can get deletions, not showing your picture or other identifying information, is, in my opinion, counterproductive.

UPDATE!:

Today, I got a single piece of mail, it was from EQ.

Both accounts DELETED!!

WhyChat!

I cant thank you enough for learning these laws and processes, and then freely showing others how to use the information.

Thank you.

Congrats, credit mama. FYI, yesterday I received mail from EQ. 'Verified'. The other two have already deleted. So the email does not seem related to the outcome.

I got a strange followup to this yesterday. As I mentioned, eq 'verified' my original dispute. I followed up with Why Chat's CMRR letter to the collection agency, and then another to EQ. That was sent CM on April 16, delivered April 20. This one does not seem to suggest anything about a click signifying agreement to do all further interaction online. But even though this is not the initial letter that I gather benefits from non-automated handling, it still seems worthwhile to do everything with a paper trail. Here's today's email:
