I think it's a great idea. When I needed one, I found it extremely difficult to find one. Those that do advertise in the Phone book, seem to be working for the companies. I decided to go without, and not persue my issues.

I do believe we must be careful posting lawyer info. And, of course, getting referrals without proper scrutiny. Just my two cents!

Splendid idea. However, while both of my attorneys, who have successfully litigated on my behalf on two separate issues, are found on the NACA sight, I feel a little reluctant to simply post their names for a host of reasons. Thus, if anyone needs a consumer atty in Georgia then I invite you to PM me and once I develop some rapport with you I will be more than happy to share my information with you.

Is there any wisdom in appointing a moderator or other established member in offering referrals through non public means?

guess not

FG, reading back through the thread, it seemed like it was clear - mods and admin will be happy to set up a database or list, whatever is appropriate, once the attorneys in question have given permission to list their name. If members can't get that permission or won't go to the trouble, then it is pretty much a member to member thing. If you see someone asking for a lawyer, you can use a private means of communication and give a private referral.

I think a list or database is a great idea, but I know for a fact that it is very bad manners (at the very least) to post someone's name, occupation, and contact information on an internet messageboard without their permission - even if they are attorneys. Or perhaps I should say "especially if they are attorneys."

Perhaps it's just taking time to contact the attorney's and ask. I don't know. So far I have received no attorney names for the list/database. I'll let you all know if I do.

If it is going to be a CB list or DB, we would like to control it. We usually set these things up so they will be difficult to tamper with, so we would not just appoint "someone" to keep the list for us. We do have volunteer members who do DB work for a living, who help us if the list should grow large enough to be put into DB format, and we would host it here.

Does that help?

The idea of this thread is to get public comments - ideas, what info you would want included on the list/database, etc. Throwing any old list up is easy, Doing it right takes a little work. We'll do the work, if y'all get some lawyers to agree to be listed.

I actually found my attorney ON creditboards since he used to post here regularly.

Whenhe posted here did he say he was an attorney? Why is he not here anymore?

What did he do for you?

Thanks

Well I agree, but I personally would be hesitant to post any lawyer I'd used, would make it extra easy for the lurkers to find out who's who. B)

By listing the Lawyer's name, any lurking here could easily find cases in said state with that lawyer's name, and match up info posted in previous post by whoever posted said lawyers name.

Sounds a little like Lizard King all over again.

I'm for a DB. But like the Admin wouk want it to be controled to SERIOUS LAWYERS only, not the FBN(Fly By Night) ones advertised all over the place. You know the ones who take my money then dont even try to defend me! Or expect me to do all the work.(I will do all thats resonable, but I pay them to interpet the laws and convence the judge in MY favor!), or the ones who take ANY case with out a reasonable expectation of winning.

If a DB happens a listing by geographic area or state would be helpfull, as well as areas of expertise. It would still be up to us to determine if that lawyer is sutable for our situtation.

Why not have access to the attorney DB limited or locked just like PM privledges are reached until you reach a certain level on the boards ? Reaching level XXX allows LIMITED access to the DB , then perhaps a further layer of security by having mod/admin review request for FULL access ?? I dunno Im just free associating here ( its how I usually come up with my best ideas B)

I'm an attorney in North Texas and I've defended about 2 dozen cases where the plaintiff was a credit card company. All of the cases have been successful, either through dismissal or a judgment (i.e. take nothing). With moderator's permission, I will post my email address that anyone can contact me. In these cases, I usually charge a flat fee.

I know I would love to know of a good attorney here in Pennsylvania. I have a feeling me and ol' Cap1 will be 'rassling soon (those jerks).

In most cases, we don't allow posting of email addys or links. Anything that can be construed as a solicitation is not allowed. If you'd like to contact admin@creditboards.com, we'll do some investigation and give you a yay or nay. Any links proving who you are and your cases would help.

The naca dot net website may have attorneys who specialize in your area.

If ever there is a question about a particular law firm, there may be members who have experience with a particular lawyer and hopefully respond to questions.

They may have attorneys who are listed as specializing in your area, but won't give you the time of day either. I've contacted them and have never received a response, not so much as a nod.

So I would definitely agree that that each attorney would have to be personally contacted and asked if they'd want to be on a list here.
