cv91915 Posted March 9 Posted March 9 On May 25, 2010, after getting started on CB, I was pleased to get an unsecured card from Capital One with a $750 limit. For years I've been frustrated by the tiny (mainly $1k) CLIs, even after I returned to the world of prime credit, but I slowly dragged the limit up to $27k where it's sat stubbornly for a couple of years. Today when I logged in I was greeted by a popup offer to request a CLI. Since previous requests between $35k and $50k have all been denied, I asked for the low end of that -- and was approved. It's taken nearly 16 years for Capital One to treat me like an adult again. ShawnPY1972, StarkRaven$, hegemony and 3 others 6 Quote

Flyingifr Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Congratulations. I had a Cap1 card with a miserly $500 line. It was on their Travel Card. Wow, with that amount of credit I could travel to Phoenix from where I lived in Tucson, but only by bus. When my credit scores hit the 800's I asked for a CLI to make a travel card useful. The CLI that I got was a whopping $26, Yep, $500 to $ 526. I closed the card immediately because Cap1 showed me how useless that card is to me. Meanwhile I had a $35,000 line at Amex. Krish 1 Quote

It seems that if you get approved as a subprime customer it can take forever before they can no longer smell it on you. I only keep the card open because it's so old. Well, that and the perpetual same-APR-as-purchases (i.e., no interest when the statement balance is paid in full) offers, which I still occasionally exercise for reasons that make sense to me in the moment. Flyingifr Posted March 14 Posted March 14 When you get your first Crap1 card they put you into a "bucket". I was in the subprime bucket, just recovering from the 2008 crash. It is a long story. Fifteen years later my credit is clean and my scores in the 800's, but Crap1 kept me in the subprime bucket. With Crap1 you cannot graduate to a higher bucket. Quote
Krish Posted March 15 Posted March 15 I have been randomly asking for CLI and each time they come up with less usage on the card, balances are low compared to limits and some other BS reasons. Moved from 10k to 12k in almost 24 hrs and I keep it for the sake of age. For the past 4 years, I kept using it for $10 to $30 per year, once or twice in the year not exceeding my self imposed limit. cv91915 1 Quote

Something may be brewing with their merger with Discovery, like maybe they're now giving higher limits to keep people from becoming preoccupied over the stench of both brands doubling.
