antknee Posted February 23 Posted February 23 So I just got a letter from a lawyer/ collector I’ve dealt with about 10 yrs ago on a separate debt.. apparently it’s for some bills I racked up for rent late fees and possible water bill issue from an apartment I lived in about 9 or 10 years ago. I think the statute of limitations in Virginia for that type of thing is 5 years. I’m assuming I should go ahead and send a DV letter correct? At this point it’s just a letter it’s not on my credit reports .I had to go through all this about 10 and 15 years ago and finally got my credit where I want it and I don’t want something old that I believe I’ve paid off, coming back to haunt me. Also the apartment in question change management about two years ago if that makes a difference it’s got a totally different name and a totally different company behind it now.
Why Chat Posted February 24 Posted February 24 Unless the letter you received was sent certified mail or had an illegal demand in it or threat to sue or report I suggest you do NOT respond in any way. These scum scam CAs send out batch mailings on old accounts hoping to get some kind of reaction.
antknee Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 Thank you for the input, it makes me feel a lot better.. it was just a letter, nothing “ official.” I had an account here a very long time ago and you were helping folks back then too.. Nice to see you still at it.
