CubRunner Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I missed my July payment on my mortgage. I called in August to talk through getting caught back up and the mortgage company CSR set up a payment plan for September - December to include the past due amount broken up into four equal amounts on top of my monthly payment. I made my payment in September and my credit score tanked 50 points due to a missed/late payment in August. Since I am making my payments on time (they all are scheduled on time through the rest of the year), will each month continue to show late until it is resolved? Or will it just show the missed payment for August? Quote
Admin MarvBear Posted September 27, 2025 Admin Posted September 27, 2025 Not very mortgage savvy here, but I will try to help. Great question—and one that trips up a lot of borrowers navigating catch-up plans. Here's how it typically works: 🧾 What Will Show on Your Credit Report August will show as 30 days late, since the July payment wasn’t made by the end of that billing cycle. September through December should show as current, assuming you make each payment on time—even if those payments include a portion of the past-due balance. ⚠️ Common Misunderstandings A repayment plan doesn’t erase or reclassify the missed payment. It just prevents further delinquency. You won’t see “rolling lates” unless you fail to meet the terms of the catch-up plan. Some servicers may report a notation like “payment plan in place” or “partial payment accepted,” but this doesn’t count as a late mark. ✅ What You Can Do Pull your full tri-merge report (not just scores) to confirm how each bureau is reporting it. If the servicer miscodes future months as late, you can dispute with documentation showing the agreed plan and timely payments. Consider sending a Qualified Written Request (QWR) under RESPA to get a written breakdown of how they’re reporting each month. If your mortgage servicer knows how to effectively use E-Oscar, then you may only have the one late. Quote
