Sidewinder Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 For the past several days I have pretty much been coming apart, and I've made it onto the website of the 988 line despite being sure that I'm not a critical enough case (not suicidal) to take up their time and resources... Yesterday I filled out my info on the "start chat" page but couldn't bring myself to click the "submit" arrow. Today I observed I am continuing to fall apart and this time I got as far as filling out my info and ACTUALLY WENT THROUGH with clicking the thing, in a minute or two I was connected with a counselor who gave me her name and I asked if I cared to give my name and age. I left the chat. I'm not sure if it's because she was female (see, I am male). I really don't know WHAT my problem was, but I clicked the little trash can, pushed my laptop away and said, "Great just found ONE more thing I managed to completely screw up." I looked up and told God or Moses or George Carlin that I just wished I could sob, that I wished there was someone I knew (I've lived in Minnesota for 15 years now but still don't know anyone here) whose shoulder I could literally cry on. I've been doing some frantic apartment cleaning (building is being inspected on the 21st and my "housekeeping" habits betray those of a severe depression sufferer, I am expecting a lease violation if not the start of eviction proceedings) so I got some more of that done, but now I am back in that frantic state. Posted a Facebook status that just said "say hello" but no comments yet. I don't think you're allowed to tie up the crisis hotline just because you're starved for sentient company. (AI bots will never fill that role; humans have souls.) Anyone have any experience using the crisis line? I hope not, because I'd prefer for everyone to be well; but instead here we are in the real world. : / Quote

Glacier Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 I have not used a crisis line myself but am considering it. I feel like something is wrong, just don't know what, and just need someone to talk to. I have done talk therapy in the past, in person, but never seemed to click with the therapist, never seemed to work, so would stop going after several months. That said, I don't think it is wrong to call/chat them even if you are not at the moment going to cause self-harm, as while yes, they are there for those in immediate need, they also are there to help the rest of people in distress, even if it may be to help us find someone to talk to away from the crisis line. Sidewinder Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 Eviction schmiction; basically the owners' and manager's concerns were: A) biohazards (i.e. pest/vermin infestation). Ain't no vermin 2) damage to the building. There's normal wear y tear from living here for 10 years, but as far as something like a hole the size of three bowling balls in the wall between two bedrooms (which the building manager says he's seen elsewhere), there's nothing like that. Also there ain't no issues as far as egress/evacuation path. So I didn't even get a lease violation, let alone evicted. Still, I'd prefer a tidier place. : / Quote
Glacier Posted September 2, 2025 Posted September 2, 2025 Good news that the inspection went well, and you didn't even get a lease violation! Quote
embertmorton200 Posted November 13, 2025 Posted November 13, 2025 People often hesitate to reach out to a crisis hotline because they worry about judgment or escalation, but the experiences shared in the thread paint a different picture. Most describe compassionate listeners who focus on grounding and support rather than scripts or pressure. Even if someone isn’t in immediate danger, having a calm voice on the line can make a heavy moment feel a little less isolating. Kat58 1 Quote
