supern8ural Posted February 2, 2025 Posted February 2, 2025 I didn't see one had been created so here goes Quote Macy’s AmEx (actually a Citi card) was $2000 opened 9/22/23 approved for $5k 3/24/24 tried to ask for another CLI 9/30/24 and got an error that they could not access my credit report which I assume means they were going to do a HP (I've frozen all three bureaus) so I didn’t call them as the error message requested, I would rather have fewer HPs than a higher CL on this one. The previous CLI was a soft pull, wonder why they’re doing this. Just got a notification this morning (10/30/24) that one of my credit limits had been increased; apparently Macy's (really Citi) gave me an auto-CLI to $7500. Which is a little unusual as that's a sock drawer card for me, but I'll take it. Tried this morning (2/2/25) for $10k, got an error, but when I logged back in a couple hours later to try again it looks like it went through. Another milestone, now every single card I have has a $10k or higher CL save for the two Citi branded cards (Double Cash and Costco Anywhere Visa) which are stuck at $1k but I think one of them will be 3 months since last CLI later this month. Still not quite $100k TCL, this should put me at $99,600 so next one puts me over the top... cv91915 1 Quote

PC’d to Costco Anywhere Visa 9/19/24. Denied 10/8/24 "your account hasn't been open long enough to be considered for an increase." Approved for $1000 11/5/24. Tried again this morning just because but apparently the 6 month thing is a hard rule. Immediately got this message We’re sorry. This account is not eligible for a credit limit increase request because your last credit limit change was on 11/05/2024. There must be six months between changes in your credit limit. You may be eligible to make your next request on or after 05/04/2025. So that's it for a while, I will be 3 months out from a CLI on Discover on 3/1 and I'm assuming the 6 month rule applies to my other Citi card as well, all my other cards I'm happy with the current limits (all $20k+ except for my Macy's AmEx which is at $10k) hegemony 1 Quote

Not really burned, but what happened was I'd sock drawered the card and was dealing with a lot of serious life stuff; apparently SiriusXM kept the card number on file and renewed my subscription in January and I went 90DL before I even noticed because as I say I was dealing with a lot of stuff. So they closed my card, I did pay it off in full but goodwill letter failed, finally fell off my credit late last year. Got a Diamond Preferred almost 2 years ago which I PCd to the Costco Visa at some point and also got a Double Cash last year. Both opened $500, got a CLI on both finally to $1000 last year, and got CLI on both to $2000 last month. Even so with normal spend I'll likely be at 50% utilization if I use my Double Cash as a catchall for all non category purchases. The worst part about this whole *Admin prohibits insults that reference an individual's intelligence.* story is that I intended to not renew SiriusXM and the only reason I still had it was because they gave me some retention thing the previous year, a *Admin prohibits insults that reference an individual's intelligence.* steep discount and I think an Alexa or something which my ex kept. It was kind of a hold over from years ago when I was a PM so pretty much lived in my company car and streaming from your phone wasn't a thing yet. I still have one car with a working Sirius receiver (I actually installed it when I bought the car something like 13 years ago) but I know you'll be shocked to hear this, I haven't had a subscription in a little over 6 years... I thought Citibank did not allow converting the product of a core legacy card to a co-branded card and vice versa. when I originally apped I was really just trying to get "a" card from each issuer without a real plan, just wanted to get them in my pocket to start rebuilding my credit, and I figured if I found what I had wasn't a good fit down the road I'd PC when my credit was better (and I in fact have PCd two different cards in the last two years). I applied for the Diamond Preferred because a) that was the card I used to have and b) they weren't doing pre-approvals at the time and I was thinking that would be easier to get than a Double Cash. I had to just wing Citi unlike Cap1 or Discover because of the no pre-approval thing. then last year when their pre-approval was back up I was pre-approved for the Double Cash I figured what the heck, interest rates have shot my plans to hell, I'm not buying a house this year so I apped for that as well. As you see they still only started me at $500 even though I'd rebuilt my credit quite a bit. That's when I called to ask about PC'ing the Diamond Preferred and the only thing I was asked was if I was a Costco member (I was and am.) Costco card makes sense for me as there is one literally on my way to/from work with a gas station and my area is lousy with them as well, so hey 5% on gas is worth it. Plus I found out after the fact that it's no FTFs so that's a nice backup if for some reason my Savor doesn't work. Also, there was no SUB so I lost nothing by PCing to it. Since we're talking about that card, one thing I just found out a couple days ago is that if you have it, your Costco membership will auto-renew on it. So I guess if you want to cancel your membership you have to actively do it, not just do nothing after a year (and likely PC the card to something else first as they'll close it if you don't have a membership.) I was doubly skeptical I could do the PC because the Diamond Preferred is a MC and the Costco Visa is, well, you know, but it was a painless process. That's the only time I've had to talk to Citi customer service in ages and really I couldn't have asked for much more - except credit limit 😕 Of course I just saw Discover's next quarter categories and they're utterly worthless for me... I already get 5% off on gas 😕 and buy it at Costco 98% of the time. Funny thing is I was trying to diversify my pocket and now I've got three Citi cards (I also have the Macy's AmEx which I literally got just to get a screaming deal on a watch I wanted - worth it though, and that card now has a $10k limit unlike the ones that actually say Citi on them) and now Capital One has acquired Discover so I have seven cards in my pocket from only four issuers (the other two being BoA and JPMCB) Edited June 3, 2025 by supern8ural more info MP80 1 Quote
supern8ural Posted June 4, 2025 Author Posted June 4, 2025 As I posted in another thread, I was thinking I should pick up another issuer and in my situation might as well do it sooner than later to let stuff age. AmEx Blue Cash Everyday, approved today for $10k. I expect this to actually help my scores as my Citi Double Cash has a $2k limit (literally just CLId from $1k on Saturday) so if I start using the BCE for online purchases that will take a lot of load off the Double Cash. So per card utilization will look a lot better even if I have one new hard pull and one new account. MP80 and Kat58 2 Quote
ShawnPY1972 Posted June 8, 2025 Posted June 8, 2025 Citi approved me for their Double Cash card. I've been very apprehensive about applying with Citi because they're all over the board with which credit bureau that they pull. While I have good credit on all reports, I have more inquiries on both Experian and TransUnion. I only have one inquiry on Equifax. I read somewhere that if you freeze TransUnion and Experian that Citi will pull from Equifax and that's what they did for me. Truth be told, my Equifax report is much much stronger than the other two reports. I have credit that is reporting to Equifax that's not reporting to any other Bureau. Therefore, I'm quite happy that they pulled Equifax. What I did was freeze both TransUnion and Experian. Then I did the Citi credit card pre-qualify and it qualified me for two cards with both reports Frozen. I was approved for $9,500 at 22% interest. I'm very very shocked on the interest rate! I honestly don't know if this was a fluke them pulling Equifax or if it truly works if you freeze the other two bureaus. Regardless, I'm happy that I'm in with Citi! I have Macy's and Bloomingdale's American Express cards that are joint accounts with my mom. Both of those accounts have credit lines of $20,000 each and are issued by Citi. You can call Citi after a couple months (3? 6? I'm not sure) and request that they lower your interest rate, I did that recently. I think it is still 18.24% for the lowest advertised rate for the Double Cash (like most cards, it's based on the prime rate plus x%). Everyone who says "you should never carry a balance" is correct of course but I see no harm in also getting your account to the lowest APR possible while you've got good credit. Odd that you should mention that because on my things to do list today is to call Citi again and try to get my Costco Visa APR lowered as it's been exactly three months since I did my first round of calls. In another three months I will call Discover and try to get that one lowered as well. ShawnPY1972 1 Quote
