Amazon Posted September 23, 2024 Posted September 23, 2024 I agreed to the Amex Optima card repayment plan for 36 equal payments to pay off my ~20k balance two weeks ago today. My first payment came out on 09/10. Prior to that, I had paid a small payment because it said I needed to make a payment that was larger than the payment plan payment to "bring my account current." The two payments added up were a bit more than the payment needed. I assumed this would satisfy the amount. The email confirmation states that I've entered an agreement to pay off the balance of my account in 36 equal payments and that I will not receive further phone calls from Amex unless it is in regards to my payment plan. Although it doesn't outright mention interest and fees, based on what I've read from others and by doing the math (the 36 payments are equal to the statement balance), I assumed that it did not include interest or fees. Well, I received my statement and there is interest included at the normal rate, however the fees were waived. Additionally, I have been getting phone calls from Amex internal collections. I had been ignoring them until I saw the interest being charged, so I decided to pick up today. Their internal "Sr. Account Manager" is stating that my account "doesn't meet the requirements" because it is in pre-chargeoff. When I asked if they are trying to void the agreement that is already in place, he refused to answer stating that he's "not allowed to comment." They're presenting to me the typical financial relief program at 5.99% and threatening to charge my account off. I told them I paid the amount they said I needed to in 2 separate payments order to bring it current last month, but to no avail. They said it's 180 days past due. I don't feel like they should be able to just back out of an agreement that they made with me here, but I don't know what my options are. If they can just tack on interest, the 5.99% is cheaper, but I still feel like I'm getting duped. I talked to two separate "Sr. Account Managers" today. I actually think it was the same guy posing as two different people, but that's beside the point. He told me there were absolutely no managers available, so I have to call back tomorrow to speak to one. I'm just not sure how to proceed. Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! Quote

Thanks in advance! I would contact EO (Executive Office) and let them know your situation. I think this is something they can help resolve. Also, if your account was pre charge off, they should have offered you reinstatement of your account. ShawnPY1972 1 Quote
chrishillson Posted October 4, 2024 Posted October 4, 2024 Did you get anything in writing/email? Quote
Flyingifr Posted October 5, 2024 Posted October 5, 2024 Then stop paying and let them charge it off. Then you will qualify for the original agreement. Quote
