marqedsade
Starting disputes on an account that just appeared on TU/EQ over the weekend. The alleged date of services was April, 2020, and I am in PA, which has a 4 year SOL. Is the process still the same as listed or are there any changes to the process? Anyone find either TU or EQ to be harder/easier to deal with? Thank you for any responses! @Why Chat

marqedsade
@Why Chat, here is where I stand as of today: Been opted out for years, and no prior addresses reporting with TU or EQ. I printed out the 2 dispute letters on 8/11/24 (1-TU, 1-EQ, not reporting to Ex as of yet). When I printed the letters, the blue background did not print, but, the blue handwriting DID.print out. I completed the blanks in the Initial CRA letters (Report #, SS#, etc), and inserted copies of the accounts from my credit reports with the accounts circled. Both dispute letters were sent Priority Mail on 8/12/24. According to USPS tracking: TU received my letter in the PO Box on 8/15/24 at 2:17pm and the dispute was entered into their system on 08/16/24 as a result of that letter, and is still pending with a Estimated Completion Date of 09/15/24. EQ received my letter in the PO Box on 8/16/24 at 12:42pm. In checking through the Eq website, NO dispute is in progress as of yet. Today, 8/20, I received this in my junk e-mail from the CA: Credit Management Company P.O. So, based on the program, I should wait to receive responses from the CRA BEFORE continuing any further. Correct? According to TU, my dispute completion deadline date (which I screenshot) is 9/15/24, and no dispute has even been entered into EQ. That leaves me plenty of time to reach out to the CA AFTER the dispute time(s) have elapsed. So, just sit back and wait and do nothing till after the TU dispute time elapses, correct? Thanks for your help! Edited August 20 by marqedsade
Why Chat
I presume it is only reporting to TU and EQ and not to Ex?? The letter from the CA is a "Hail Mary" automated response as they have NO leverage. If you pay them a red cent it will just make things worse.

Currently not reporting to Ex. Hell no, I certainly won’t be paying a cent. But wanted to make sure that staying the course with waiting on the CRA responses was the correct way to handle this. Was specifically interested in your thoughts on EQ not posting anything as of yet, even though they’ve had the letter for going on 4 days. marqedsade
And still as of this morning, no dispute entered on the EQ website.
Why Chat
Sending a "handwritten" dispute letter requires the CRA to process it manually with a live human being Stateside instead of an offshore AI system-- it takes time. How are you checking your Eq report?? are you signing on to their website??

How are you checking your Eq report?? are you signing on to their website?? Yes @Why Chat, I am signing into their site. My Equifax.com membercenter. Sorry, deleted the link to be safe. It does update real time and is the same site that I have used to check dispute statuses for years now. marqedsade
@Why Chat............hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm EQ received on 8/16 and STILL NO DISPUTE listed on their site. This could end up being good. The 30 day clock started ticking on the 16th, so we will see....

In checking through the Eq website, NO dispute is in progress as of yet. @Why Chat, still not a dispute on the website. I am able (which I will NOT do) to dispute the medical collection if I choose to. Any thought on this? Theoretically, what steps would be next if they NEVER start a dispute, which is looking more and more likely? Complaint with the CFPB? Follow up letter to Equifax? Both at the same time? Have you seen this happen where the CRA just ignores the dispute request? Cause as of now that's what it looks like. I see them claiming I have a split file, but, my address and SS# were in the letter so they could have responded by now, 12 days after they received. What do you think? Why Chat
Have you pulled a NEW report?? Or are you just using your existing link that would not show updates.
marqedsade
I am signing into MyEquifax, which provides updates. When you click on "Start A Dispute", it shows your updated information as of that moment. Unfortunately, they DID update to show my dispute was underway as of 08//17. So, just need to chill go two more weeks and see what happens. Was hoping they missed it or something like that.

marqedsade
1 minute ago, Why Chat said: "You currently have no Collections on your credit file." Can I presume that this was from Eq?? That is correct, @Why Chat. The dispute now shows as "Closed", and to be safe, I confirmed via the Eq phone number (dispute results not on the site, because the dispute was sent via mail, so they will respond via mail) that the status of the dispute is "Item Deleted". Now it's a matter of waiting on TU, which should be done within a few days (I believe it is already done but that TU has not updated as such). THANK YOU SO MUCH, @Why Chat!!! Both EQ and TU deleted, and only had to send 1 dispute letter to each!!! YOU ROCK! Why Chat
Why Chat
If you have opted out you have reduced the chance that the debt will resurface as opting out prevents the CRAs from selling your data to data miners.
