hdporter
Braced myself upon opening our 6 mo GEICO renewal and my jaw dropped at a 20% premium drop ... I thought, "something's messed up!" (I'm confident that nothing material has changed.) I look closely at the details and find the following: -- My traffic citations have aged sufficiently that I qualify for an "excellent driver" discount -- Bev has been advanced to an "excellent driver plus" discount and, modestly painfully: -- My upcoming birthday now qualifies me for a 65+ discount This translates to $850 a year in savings! (Likely $1000+ when the standard renewal hike is taken into account) It's a good day hegemony, Kat58, shifter and 5 others 7

supern8ural
I'm jealous (but happy for you.) I'm 50 years old and have a squeaky clean driving record. Couple wrecks but not at fault. (rear ended twice) My premiums just keep going up, up, up every year. The only negative other than being rear ended is I do live in the City of Baltimore which is literally the riskiest place in the US to drive (according to Allstate) although my rates are about the same as they were when I lived just outside of DC (which is also a *Admin and our Terms of Service prohibit profanity* place to drive, to be fair...) TheVig
Mine went up almost 20%. I called to cancel. Then all off a sudden they found discounts, without losing coverage. MegaDebt

That's a soft landing, all told. In your shoes, I'd have been tempted to put the rep in a "hot seat" for a minute or two before continuing coverage: "Uh, the added discounts are good. But why haven't you been proactive and suggested them BEFORE I called to cancel??! If anything, you've provided me yet another reason to be dissatisfied with my policy service." I can only get you half of the additional discounts I just quoted. Will you be canceling today?"

In the meantime, I'd sign with the first company with a reasonable quote ... you want to be in the hands of these jokers should you file a claim? greendeh and TheVig 1

A year ago I switched home internet providers. Called Spectrum to cancel. No retention song and dance routine offered. I cut the TV part years ago. I went with Verizon Home 5G for $25 a month. About a week after canceling Spectrum called and wanted my business back. Yep. You guessed it. They offered me internet for $25 a month. I asked why didn't they offer me that deal when I called to cancel. They were speechless, and I hung up. I'm happy with Verizon. T-Mobile offers something similar too. It's not for every situation. It depends where your home is in relation to a tower. It's put enough of a dent in Spectrum's internet business, that they spend money on TV commercials making fun of internet from Verizon, T-Mobile, etc.

I have no accidents, incidents or violations for over 25 years and my insurance went UP 20% this year. Auto Insurance is now my 3rd biggest annual expense behind food and utilities, with homeowners insurance being a close 4th place, and my homeowners insurance also went up 20% this year, also with no claims in decades. I wish my Social Security went up 20%, but it didn't.

I might have subtitled my post: "... now my premiums are slightly lower than before my 20% rate hike a year ago!" Growth in auto and property claims are near exponential, thus the carryover to premiums. I'm not going to let that diminish ny thrill from some hefty unanticipated discounts . greendeh
cashnocredit
Mine dropped 15% earlier this year which surprised me at my age (76). I carry max liability but also high deductables on collision, etc. No idea why except my car is now 15 y/o. Possibly my collision deductables are approaching value totaled. Clean record for the last 40 years so that's not a factor.
