AMEX and BK question?

I posted earlier regarding rentals and BK, I was nervous as hell then but all turned out ok there!  Now I have a question, and probably getting way ahead of myself here!  I've been getting alot of solicitations from AMEX/related entities regarding hotel and airline I have flown on and stayed at. Lately they have been doing soft credit inquiries, so why not?..  Although I did not have an AMEX account when I filed in 2019, their response when I applied recently was a decline because of the BK in 2019, no other reason listed-these were soft inqs.  How long will AMEX hold a BK against you?, even if the BK did not involve them?

I doubt Amex will approve with a BK showing on your reports. If you can get it removed, you can probably get approved.

Bank of America will consider someone with a bankruptcy as long as it's five years old.

I think you are setting your sights too high with Amex.  There are a lot of other banks that will approve you with a BK showing.  Capital One maybe isn't the best card but their Venture Card has good rewards program and they will give you limit increases every six months as long as you make the payments timely.

Amex was IIB less than 5K.  They sent me an invite to apply for the Everyday Card after the BK fell off all three reports. Everyday card was approved and a Gold card a year later.

 

I have no insight to what their rules are for letting people back in but I suspect a major factor is how much was IIB.

I was told Amex's BK policy is 5 years and 1 month from the filing date if Amex was not included in the BK.

I burned Amex for 6 figures+. I did a prequal on their site and I was able to get back in with a Plat and Gold instant approvals.

Discharged chapter 7 was 6/2017, approved 5/2024
