I requested validation from Debt Collector and received a copy of the statement (a recent one). What should be my response if any?

What are you trying to accomplish??

 

If this is a recent debt (within the past 2 years) and is NOT a medical debt you may have caused more harm than good by requesting "validation" as you are likely to be sued.

 

If it is older than 2 years and is beyond the legal SOL (statute of limitations) for your State (look up your State here):

It is almost 4 yrs old, I believe FL is 5 years and no it is not being reported to the CB yet by the collector

Since it wasn’t reporting to any CRA you should have waited it out unless there was legal action being taken against you.

How close to 4 years is it? Fla is 4 years SOL for credit cards.

Florida has no wage garnishment allowed against the principal wage in the home.

I was under the impression it was 5 years. Well, a good 5 more months.. I am just going to let it sit. If there is legal action I will fight it, I had never heard of this CA before

They are a CA with HORRIBLE reviews and many complaints -- they should be ignored as they have no ability to do anything except annoy you. If they call you tell them you will be reporting them to the proper authorities.

Who is the original creditor? Date of last payment?

Requesting "validation" has no effect on the legality of collection activity beyond the legal SOL. As to the "original creditor" or date of last payment-- that too is of no import as the poster has stated that it is beyond the 4 year SOL in Florida. The OC may be a school or even possibly some other institutional entity. The subject CA is infamous for trying to collect on such accounts that have long since been paid off or were forgiven.
