Posting this here mostly for posterity sake:

Im going to close a buncha cards in the next few moths....Going to get CLIs on my major use cards to help combat the loss of open credit lines....Im simply sick of playing the use every 6 months game to keep lines open.  Im going to keep my oldest TLs of course.... Closing mostly store branded cards as well as most of my Synchrony cards ( except Care Credit because I have a very nice limit there)....

I dont plan on opening any new TLs in 2024 so by January 2025 I should be in a better place.

I hear you.  We have 50+ open cards between us.  But I haven't sweated inactivity under 12 mo (and occasionally 24 mo) in ages and ages.

Yeah, I've lost a couple where the issuers were looking to cut a lightly used card in any case (discontinued card products).  But 12-15 mo inactivity rarely gets a knee jerk closure.

(Bev's C1, one of her older tradeline, 1993?, that hasn't been used in 24+ mo., just reached out and said if you want to keep it open, use it may April 30.)

Just suggesting that there are options between cramming your drawers full of pencils and closure ... (luv ya gal!)

And, btw, if someone shuts you down for inactivity, it's mostly their loss.  You get the age benefit for 10 more years!  And, "closed by creditor" don't mean crap!

I agree. I would just leave the ones you don't care about dormant and let them close them if they want or maybe not. No skin off your back and you gain the CL benefit as long as they are open and AAoA benefit for longer also.

I sort of admire your determination to "cull the herd." I have lots of open lines but I can't bring myself to choose which (if any) to actively close them. Although to be fair I don't have any Synchrony cards, and everything I have read on CB make me leery of that issuer, so maybe I can cheerlead for your decision to close out Synchrony lines?
