Valero Gas Card

A couple weeks ago I was bored and applied for the Valero Gas Card.  I knew they pulled Equifax and I only had two inquiries reporting.  My vantage score was in the 740s but my Fico is around 688.  I got two baddies with late payments dragging my scores down.

 

I figured I would get an instant approval but I got a decline.  I was pretty shocked.  I called Valero the following day requesting that they reconsider my application being told absolutely not.  She told me to wait for the letter.

 

Surprisingly the letter came requesting more information such as copies of my driver's license and proof of address.  They gave me the option to fax or email the requested information.  I immediately emailed the documents.

 

I got my card in the mail today and they approved me for $1,000 credit limit.  I also applied for Chevron and they only gave me $300.

 

The only reason I applied for Valero and Chevron for that matter is because I wanted to diversify my credit.  I now have two gas cards, six department store, five Visa / MasterCard, personal loan and a line of credit.

 

In a years time the late payments with Bank of America and OneUnited Bank will be gone and all my new accounts will have aged a year and at that point I will work on CLI on all accounts and apply for new credit to strengthen my portfolio.

 

My mom added me on several of her cards as authorized user and a couple as joint account holder which makes my credit look amazing.

 

I'm very happy how things are going.  In 2021 my vantage scores were in the very low 500s and just six months ago was 612.  My ficos are all three nearing 700.  In a year I would be very happy with 760 Ficos.
