Sidewinder
SPIRE credit union left a VM to say my Signature Visa app has been approved but that I need to let them know "the dollar amount that I would like on the card" since I did not list that. I truly don't remember a space on the app where I was asked to list that, but in any case this question always stumps me. Why wouldn't anyone being asked that just ask for the biggest, most bestest limit possible? What do I say? AmEx has entrusted me with a $22K limit on one of my cards and I've given them no reason to regret it. I've also heard of cu's giving $50K limits... I have no idea what I'm allowed to ask for here. : /

Burgerwars
I say just ask for what you need and is reasonable for your income. If it was me, and they asked, I would put in some round number, like $10,000. I wouldn't put some crazy number in like $1,000,000,000.00, but you could try. 😕

supern8ural
My thought process would be ask for the limit that you'd want if it would be your only card. In my case, let's say I spend on average $2K a month, I'd ask for $25K because that would keep my utilization at ~10% even on a heavy month. No guarantee you're going to get it of course. shifter
Memberlicious! If you have someone on the phone you can ask them what the max available is and then ask for that. The problem with some CUs is you ask for $50k when they max out at $30k or whatever and they just decline you because they can't provide the limit you want. Sidewinder
I called yesterday afternoon and the same lady who left the voice-mail "faulting" me for not having filled that in on the app, told me it's $10K. (Good enough.) I drove to their nearest branch this morning to get the account all set up n stuff; then I drove to Edina to mail my deposit (a paper cash-back check from CapitalOne) to my high-yield savings account, see; and then I drove further south to the Royal Credit Union branch on 76th Street to get my debit card replaced 'cause there was fraud on the previous one but the guy said they couldn't do it because all their systems were down. : /
