treman
I received my mortgage payoff statement via email on Wed., October 18. The payoff was $1076 which was good through October 25.. I sent the cashier check via certified mail to my mortgage company on October 19. On October 20 I received another email with an updated payoff quote in the amount of $2622 due to the fact that they are including my taxes ($1546) due November 1. Guess I'm just venting because I would have thought they would have either expected me to pay the taxes on my own since the payoff was due a week before the taxes were or would have taken the taxes into consideration I did email them and ask if I can pay them on my own as the tax records show the taxes haven't been received yet. 8ball and hegemony 1
swingline
You can see my dealings with my subprime mortgage lender haven't been a success story. By when I am ready to pay it off completely, my intention is to send money via ACH and make them owe me money so that can't pull that crap. We can fight about how much they owe me. But I'm surprised that you didn't already have an escrow amount with your lender that would have already had that $1546 in it for the November 1st payment. Did they explain why they had to add that to the payoff amount for tax due so soon and it wasn't in escrow already?
treman
I wanted to make the last payment via ACH, but they told me it would need to be a certified or cashier's check. I did receive the annual escrow statement in October which showed they weren't taking enough as there was a current shortage an ~$200 shortage (which was included in my payoff). It stated my payment would increase on December 1 to reflect that. I disregarded it because I knew I'd make my final payment before that. I have no idea why they wouldn't include the November 1 property taxes. In another twist, they didn't respond to my request to reverse the taxes, however, when I tried to log into my account, it stated 'Congratulation, your loan is paid off' and it wouldn't let me access anything, stating visibility was limited due to payoff. I then went online to make the November 1 tax payment on the city's website and it was already paid.
Trevordard
I can understand your frustration in dealing with the sudden change in the payoff amount. Mortgage companies sometimes have their own processes that can be a bit puzzling.
treman
What is puzzling is that after they accepted the original payoff amount and closed my account, they then went and paid the taxes. Now I guess I have to wait for the mortgage company to send me a bill to pay them for the taxes as I can no longer access my account due to the payoff.
