I don't think this dilutes the value of the MGM Rewards Credit Card program.  I believe that there's a fairly clean break between guests who would favor a Marriott booking and those who hold the MGM credit card and book a MGM room.

The truth is that the MGM credit card, when held and actively used as a "go to" card for MGM property spending, is very likely concentrated among active players.  And, among those players, I would guess a significant majority qualify for comp rooms (at least mid-week), and their spend on the card is focused on shops and some dining (charging at the venues or paying for charges that are billed to the hotel folio).

Players who will be inclined to take advantage of MGM property booking through the Marriott website are going to be those who don't spend serious time on the gaming floor and generally only benefit from strewn crumbs from the MGM Rewards program.

By affording light players an opportunity to earn Marriott points on Las Vegas stays at MGM properties, I think MGM has entered into a reasonable partnership that benefits them by drawing in players who otherwise don't have specific MGM affinity, while Marriott gets a modest piece of a hotel occupancy that is specifically targeted at a casino property for a stay.

Time for Marriott peasants to mattress run cheap nights at the Excalibur for Titanium status. Which domestically will sometimes get you a Gatorade instead of a water.

Let's see, AMEX Plat gives you Bonvoy Gold Elite I think.  As long as that status-matches to MGM Gold, I'll be happy.  Paying for parking/valet just to go to dinner with my folks is sadcattery.
