Reminds me of the time I checked into a hotel in downtown Banff, Alberta and discovering pubic hair in the sheets. I went downstairs and asked for the sheets to be changed and they instead had me change rooms. The second room had the same problem. They had French speaking maids and this was presented as an upscale charming hotel.

Not too many years back, Wyndham sold off the Knights Inn brand to Red Lion. Most Knights Inn’s made Travel Lodge look like a cat 1-4 Hyatt. Wish I still had some pics from my Knights Inn stays. One property I knew was gonna be a real gem as I pulled into the parking lot. Two buzzards sitting on the roof of the place. At check in, the owner/manager told me the place might not be for me. At that point, I decided to fook around and find out, and go ahead and check in. An hour later, my neighbor left the place in a bag. Overdose. While out to dinner, a shootout took place a couple of days later. Knock on the door one afternoon. Lady wanting to know if I had any rolling papers. I told her no, but had some pills. Gave her some prescription strength laxatives.

Yeah, those hotels where you stay overnight are like the Bate Motel, it's cheap for low-life junkies, meth and crack user, and drugsters who use Uncle Sam's monthly checks for temporary stays of three to five days.

 

The hotel manager and clean lady already know who they are from seeing them check in a few days a month. These familiar guests use the hotel to clean themselves after bathing and showering, a few days of partying, spend all the money and see you again next month.

 

We have a Bate hotel like here, the FBI and locals comes in and arrests everyone staying there, the owner of the hotel and associates are prosecuted, convicted, and sent to prison, and the hotel and other property owned by the criminals are confiscated.

99% of our travels have us in the big cities. Using various modes of public transit to get around. We were in NYC again recently. Used the hell out of the subway like we always do to get around. No issues.

One day, I would love to rent a Jeep at Budget and drive across the country along US 90. That's exactly what I'm talking about with those highway-side hotels, restaurants, and gas stations. Haha... 5 or 6 more days to go to the destination of New York.

 

I really want to drive in scenic places. Stop at Black Bear Diner, fill up at Phillip 66, then rent a motel for a break before continuing back the same way the next day.
