Balance due for no dental work done

Recommended Posts

I paid an amount of $1000 to a dentist to begin work in 3-4 weeks. They ordered retainers to be fixed into my teeth.

I have since found another dentist who aligns better with my preferences.

I contacted this previous dentist to cancel my appointment and to refund the amount (less whatever amount it was for the retainers).

They are telling me that there is no refund and I would instead have to pay another $950, because as per the contract, 25% of the total invoice is the cancellation fee!!

How can they charge me when they haven’t even touched my teeth yet!! Can I file a credit card dispute the amount I paid?

Will my account go to collections for the unpaid amount?

I’d appreciate any advice on how to deal with this please. Thanks!!

did you sign anything agreeing to the fee structure? if so, then while you can try a card dispute (which card did you use?) you may be SOL. Also, is the first dentist out $$$ for ordering the retainers? Did they do an initial fitting before the order?

welcome to CB!
