peteo
I've been receiving debt collection letters and phone calls about a debt from August 2006. Looking for advice on this matter. The debt is from a school not a credit card or loan.

centex
Is this a public school or a private school? SOME public debt does not have a traditional limitations window.
peteo
Private technical school. Universal technical institute.
centex
When was the last payment? And how was this not a loan of some sort? Doesn't make sense...may not have been a Federal Student Loan, but if it was an extension of credit for the tuition, it is still a loan of sorts. I would ALSO suggest reviewing dockets to make sure you weren't sued somewhere along the way and the current efforts are actually more closely aligned with post-judgment enforcement actions... peteo
It was for tuition. I was paying out of pocket. The date they gave on the letter I received said last payment August 30th 2006. It doesn't say anything about a judgement against me or that I'd been sued.
peteo
I should also say that they've called me more than once in a day. Isn't that a violation of the FDCPA?

Not necessarily. When did you place them on notice not to call? Was it in writing? Have you actually spoken to them once (or more) per day? Placing multiple calls through the course of the day is not, in and of itself, a violation...
