Hello, all I am repairing my credit. No primary account currently or other accounts. All derogatories have been removed from my report. My score is under 600 and I am an authorized user of American Express the user is under 20%. I am an authorized user of an American Express cardholder. My question is I was told that I can apply, get accepted, and receive an American Express primary account due to the info I stated in the beginning? Please advise some steps I can do to build my credit or a step-by-step PDF. Thanx in advance.

If you do not have any other credit beyond the AU account, then I would not be hopeful on the approval.  While they are not score driven like other lenders (meaning that they have denied some with 750+ and approved others who were sub-620), they also tend not to want to be the first one out on the branch...

welcome to CB!

amex might not be the best first card to apply for. You may be better of getting 2 or 3 secured cards and in 6 months trying amex.

Try Discover. They are a good place to start for a first card. I have seen people approved for an unsecured card with a $1k limit with a blank credit profile. Or get a secured card. Cap1 is also a good choice for someone just starting out. Pay one of these cards on time and in full for 6 months, get a credit limit increase, then try for AmEx using their pre-qualifier tool. You can also use similar tools at Cap1 and Discover, saving unnecessary inquiries...

Something doesn't add up with an under 600 FICO and no derogs. Of course if this is a skore from somewhere like CK, anything goes.

It does not add up to me either. The data is from myFICO. I removed all of the derogs with in the last 6-9 months, started with 10 derogs and have a secured card for 5 months.

Make sure the secured card you have is paid in full every month, and if you have the ability to do so, get another secured card.  Maintain for a few months - and then start researching cards and their requirements.  Amex may not be your best place to start.
