centex
I survived...but not without a nasty Monday afternoon bout of food poisoning. At least I felt comfortable enough to get to the airport Tuesday night for my redeye. Sunday was complete carnage in one of the contests...more than 6100 entries and close to 60% of the field was eliminated in Week 1 due to NFL chaos. I did well enough to buy both markers back, although the lack of a good double-deck game meant some of them never even got put into play. Circa will at least allow them to be used in TITO form on a slot or chips in play in the sportsbook. Oh, and it was weird waking up to the noise of that wet stuff falling from the skies...I though Vegas already got its rain for the year. hegemony

centex
It's time for another bout of food poisoning, err I mean travel to Vegas. Derek elected to comp a few nights for those ~60% of entries who got bounced in Week One or Two of Circa Survivor. I'm headed that direction for Thanksgiving week...probably driving instead of flying simply because airports and holidays this year strike me as a scary mix. And even if I get OUT to LAS on time, I don't want to be sitting in the lounge for a day or two because someone decided to stage a sickout or weather at DEN or ORD screws up schedules due to a weather-related ground stop. So...if any of the Vegas peeps are going to be around that week...I'll be downtown. Oh, and I have a constant supply of drink tickets for those who like to imbibe in a cold adult beverage or eight... hegemony and Krish 1
hdporter
Sad to hear that I'm forfeiting a potential meet opportunity ... We're hitting Puerto Vallarta for a week before TG and then doing a week's cruise out of Long Beach TG week. Bev's stamina is significantly restored (between shoe AFO inserts and a scooter, she's good for a full day of "action" so long as they keep infusing IG into her arm for 4 hours every 3 weeks. ). We're making up for lost time and slamming the 4th quarter calendar with activity (a lot of casino freebies to use or lose, plus a timeshare week in Mex. (We're also booked on a Christmas week cruise out of Puerto Rico). Looks like I may do a solo 4-night LV run Nov 29-Dec 3. Then, in January, we're both headed back to LV at the end of the month ... we're collecting on a rain check for comp tickets to the opening weekend Adele performance that she bailed on back in January. Word came down just as we checked into Caesars, the day before the show, that things weren't gelling as she had expected and she was bagging. Trip date will either be Jan 25-29 or Jan 27-31. As far as Saturday's schedule, at least. I wouldn't know a WWWY festival from "scout jamboree" (intentionally pushing the "old and decrepit" theme ;). But either it was a post here or on one of my gambling forums that brought this to my attention, in the vein of "bunch of entitled 30-somethings who are trashing the cancellation and the organizers who failed to cancel prior to their flight departures" on some social media (Facebook/Instagram/Twitter/Reddit or some-such-what). I do get their frustration. Saturday was the original performance date. A quick sell-out prompted added performances to be slated for Sunday and this coming Saturday. But, of course, all the key headliners were to appear Saturday. Posters complained of now being stuck idle in their over-priced hotel rooms, with sunk airfare. (You'd think their only alternative entertainment in LV was watching the McGyver reboot reruns in their room.) What I'm really stumbling over though is the festival name, "When We Were Young" ... WTF! I get the nostalgia/"still our music taste" thing. Bev and I are stuck in our college/post-college (1978+) "new wave/punk/alt/indie/synth" music crave. (TG for SiriusXM "First Wave") But I'm confident that circa 2000, the words "when we were young" NEVER fell out of our mouths. What are they saving for their 60's? "When We Were Embryonic"??? It was a little amusing, but they figured it out. 10 hours ago, hdporter said: As far as Saturday's schedule, at least. When I saw the lineup, and a lot of the bands didn't even know about it even though they were listed as performers, I was getting serious Fyre Festival 2.0 vibes. I was listening to the coverage and...jesus. When some of the bands said they've been around 20-25 years, it's just unfathomable. Andrew McMahon turned 40 this month. When he started Something Corporate, he was in high school. Old. I'm an old, old man. centex

centex
Made it out and back intact, although I did not have West Texas blizzard on my travel bingo card... That was NOT a fun several hours...especially in a car with summer tires designed for dry pavement.

They'll see you fine through a few inches (maybe not severe blizzard conditions ... but, of course, under those circumstances I'd prefer to pull off and grab a room until the snow and/or the clueless winter drivers abated). Yeah...Far West Texas is not exactly a wealth of lodging or even service options. And since there are few overpasses, there aren't even places to get out from the weather. I actually was off-schedule driving out and found myself on the cusp of being stuck between exists that had fuel but had spent enough time to know that a small town about 12 miles off the interstate had a few stations. Remember, that is the part of the State that has some Counties bigger than some States but still with fewer than a thousand people... Fort Stockton was the biggest 'city' between where the snow started and where it was ending which, coincidentally, was ALSO near Fort Stockton. I have to say that MOST of the drivers were doing reasonably well...packs of four to six spaced just far enough apart to keep a generally clean trail to follow, but you really didn't want to leave those two tracks. hdporter
Well, my flight touched down in LV at 8p. Was to have arrived at 1p, but was notified that my am flight was significantly delayed and that, at minimum I would need to re-book my connection from DFW. I decided to push back to a 4:30p flight out of ATL, having failed to tackle numerous items that cropped up during our 2-week vacation break. It was a busy, productive day. Not feeling a pull to the casino tonight. Travel has taken it's toll, flying LA (Long Beach)-ATL Sunday and then again today. (A MD appt Monday, among other things, prevented travel directly to LAS Sunday). Looks like I'll be doubling up tomorrow. 2 nights here at "the D", followed by 2 nights at Aria.
