Just got a letter from the ED confirming the full cancellation of her $47k in student loans! Naturally it will probably take them 2 years to process it, but that doesn't bother me in the least! hegemony 1 Quote

Of course I just calculated we paid about $37k on the $52k in loans over the past 14 years, mostly interest obviously. So she certainly didn't come away with a free "education"... hegemony 1 Quote

I only noticed because they deposited $1600 in our bank account - I guess some kind of interest refund or whatever. Can't complain. Quote

Says Fed Student Loan Refund. It was over $16k. Wow. I thought the $1,600 was nice. No idea how they calculated all this, but it's kind of crazy to say the least to get nearly $17.7k on top of the $47k loan cancellation. hegemony 1 Quote

Following up, they ended up refunding even more - every dollar we had paid in P+I over the years. Just FYI for anyone who is lucky enough to fall into this loan cancellation program, you should get every dollar back. After the initial check, I called them to find out how they calculated it and they said it was all my payments. Thankfully I have perfect records going back to 2003, so I added up the payments and I told them what they sent was less than half of the total payments. They said they would review it and a week later we got another check and another bank deposit for the rest. So keep good records and don't assume they will get it right the first time!
