Baxter Credit Union Credit Card Payment Help

I opened a BCU secured Visa last month. At the same time I did open a checking with them but its not my main bank.

I am trying to pay the card from external account that is linked and it keeps saying that I can not pay this card from an external bank?

Has anyone else experienced this? I have to just pick up the phone and call them, but this seems overly complicated to me.

Welcome to Creditboards!

We hope that you find what you're looking for here.

Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section. Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part. It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the top right of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

Again, welcome to the CreditBoards family!

Cards that are shared/linked (displaying under Other Account) can only receive payments from another BCU account (payments cannot be made from an external financial institution to these accounts).

This text (from the BCU website) seems most directly related to the problem you're experienced.

It's not apparent what defines an account as "shared" (I presume this means "joint") or "linked" (I presume this means an account that you permit another member to view).  But this may serve as a good stepping off point from which to engage a BCU CSR in attempting to address the problem.

So pull a transfer from your primary account to the checking and pay from checking.

Some institutions, especially the smaller ones, are going to be like that.  It is annoying, but it is only one step.  I do the same on a car payment through a CU...saved a quarter point by auto withdrawal from CU checking, so every few months, I move three or four months worth of payments and take my mammoth interest accrual on the slight increase in checking...those pennies add up, dontchaknow.
