Hi! I have 7 medical bills on my credit report that I'm trying to remove. I am new to self credit repair and would like some help on templates/wording to use and any other helpful tips you may have.

Welcome to Creditboards!

We hope that you find what you're looking for here.

Some helpful tips:

  • Your post may not get a reply right away. Don't be discouraged, this is a very busy board. If it falls off of the first page, feel free to reply to your post yourself, with the word *bump* in the text. This will *bump* your post back up to the top of the board.
  • If you haven't yet, take a peek at out Newbies Section. Everything that you need to know is in that forum, for the most part. It's a lot of reading, we know, but this credit stuff can have a steep learning curve. In no time, you'll be posting like the pros!
  • If you find that someone is discourteous to you, use the REPORT button at the top right of every post - that will ensure that a moderator or admin looks at the post and decides if it is against the TOS.
  • Off -topic posts should go in the General Forum.

Again, welcome to the CreditBoards family!

Follow the guides;

https://whychat.me/GUIDEBOOK.html

https://whychat.me/GUIDE HIPAA PROGRAM.html

The 1st step after opting out and getting old addresses deleted ) as much as possible) is to send the initial dispute letter to the CRAs ( Credit Reporting Associations) this first step is in the above guide.

https://whychat.me/hipaadisp.html

Once you have results from the above activities, come back to THIS post with the results and details on the age of the accounts (dates of medical service) andif you were insured at the time if you have your EOMBs ( explanation of medical benefits) that show what , (if anything) was paid, what was denied and how much was left as patient responsibility. The insurance Companies are required to keep those records for 5 years, if the accounts are older than that they will probably be deleted with your 1st dispute letter.

The most convenient and efficient way to dispute inaccurate medical collections on your credit report is online through Experian's Dispute Center. When you dispute the inaccurate collection account, you may be asked which detail on the account you believe is inaccurate, and why you suspect it is inaccurate. It worked for me

While you got lucky, the reality is that an actual written dispute is the recommended manner, with use of a third-party online system being the worst option for a dispute.

100%. You give up right online. Disputes are meant to be done by certified mail.

I have just reviewed my credit reports and found some disturbing news. I have an attempted medical collection from your company. One in the amount of $XXXX and the other in the amount of $XXXX  Reference number XXXXXXX.  I formally deny any responsibility of this debt.  Perhaps you have entered it in error as I see that you are not the original creditor or owner of the account.  I hereby demand that you validate and conduct a full proper investigation into this debt or delete it.

To be clear, I have the right to have this debt validated, as I believe you are reporting this account in error.  As I see that this is a medical collection, please provide me with the date of the alleged medical service, the medical provider, and the name of the patient and any contractual obligation which binds me to this medical debt.  Furthermore, I am also requesting an agreement that bears the signature of the alleged debtor where he or she signed an authorization form for HIPAA.

ACCOUNT: XXXXXXXX

If you cannot present what I request, I demand that you cease and desist on your erroneous attempted collection and refrain from reporting this account to the credit bureaus to avoid violating section 623a (1)A: reporting information with actual knowledge of errors.

Please respond in writing within 30 days so we can resolve this matter without any more violations.

Thank you.

If their response doesn’t have the Original contract with your signature or the HIPAA Authorization form, go to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and file a claim stating that you asked for these 2 things and that the company did NOT provide them(they almost 100% won’t because it would be a violation of federal law to do so.)

This should get the job done.
