Indy17
My credit karma just dropped down 77 points for Transunion, and 52 for equifax. I immediately looked at the credit reports and there is nothing new. What the heck is going on? This is a huge jump. The only thing I did was open a new card last month which they recommended. My score has been taking a beating since I sold my car. Is it because I am not using the credit cards enough? They barely have a balance. hegemony
credit karma = fake scores a new account can lower scores. do you have an open installment account? Did the car sale result in the closing of your only installment trade? taking credit advice from credit karma is like using motor oil instead of KY jelly. hdporter and MarvBear 1
Indy17
@hegemony The car was my only installment account and that was back in December. I've heard mixed things on credit Karma. One of my credit cards shows my score going up. Is the information Cards provide more accurate than credit Karma? I did also have something in collections from 2018, that renewed march, 15, 2022. Is that something would that affect the score?
Admin MarvBear Posted March 26, 2022 Admin Share Posted March 26, 2022 Indy: the collection from 2018 that updated most likely resulted in a score change. But you should be aware that a score from Credit Karma is worth less than used toilet paper. hegemony
centex
The ONLY scores that matter are those produced from a Fair Isaac model. Unless things have changed, CarmaKredit does not use them. MarvBear

Lenders don't use these scores so they are useless. Some credit cards also provide you with Vantage scores, so without knowing what cards you are talking about, we don't know. The scores that banks use are FICO. Some cards will give you FICO scores. There are also paid services that you can use to get your FICO scores. centex and hegemony 1
idonthaveaname
I agree with people saying that most lenders use fico but I don't think they are useless. They can provide various information that help you to see how things are reported on your credit report. I'm curious have you checked your fico scores ? Did they go down as well? They can be quite entertaining... Seriously though, I do have one lender that uses Vantage. My local CU that I have all the credit I want with them so I have no need to apply for anything else there idonthaveaname

CreditKarma is useful for credit monitoring of account activity. But the score is useless; it's doesn't provide a reliable indicator of what's going on with your FICO scores ... AT ALL. And, as discussed, 99% of issuers base their credit scores on FICO and/or their internal credit metrics. And, as far as the small handful of creditors who do rely upon VantageScore for their credit decisions, dealing with one of these could be a frustrating experience ... they've opted for the cheaper Brand X when it comes to decisions in which you may have a considerable vested stake. centex and MarvBear

All a change on Vantage will tell you is that SOMETHING changed. However, stories abound of people who saw decreases on Vantage but actually had an increase on a real scoring model from Fair Isaac. The converse has also been known to occur. hdporter
Indy17
thanks for the info everyone. My vantage is lower than my FICO. Penfed gives a fico score! I have work to do.
