Less an approval or CLI, and more like a kick in the teeth...

I had a USAA CC that had a very small, weird keyhole for applying.  But I ended up with unlimited 2.5% CB.  Ok, cool.

Checking statements today, noticed the reward language got replaced back in May with 1.5%.

Called to check, and yeah, card got neutered in April, they'll do a courtesy extra 1% (totaling 2.5%) until EOY, and then FML.

CSR had the gall to read the part of the letter where USAA said "to remain competitive, and make way for new exciting products, we're reducing your cashback..."

Bunch of clowns.  USAA hasn't been "competitive" in the dozen years I've been with them, they ain't gonna start now.

The loosely translates as "to preserve the profit margins which help our employee bonuses..."

Just take this as a different perspective ...

When someone gives me a deal that's better than most any one else has extended, and then later retracts the deal, my inclination isn't to take a piss on them.  Instead, I'll have anticipated that the gravy train is likely to come to the end of it's trail at some point or another.

Look, if it helps to vent your spleen a bit in frustration (and I'm not denying that there's decent reason for at least some disappointment), go for it.  Different strokes, you know ...

DH was approved for the AmEx Business Delta Gold. Apparently, we made a typo on the address for the business. After correcting the address issue, he was instantly approved for $20k, which was a shock considering his other personal cards are stuck at $1k each. We do use his Gold charge card frequently and have spent $23k on it so far this year, so I guess they like him!

Well my AmEx spree continues and their behavior remains interesting. I tried to apply for the Bonvoy Brilliant for the gazillionth time and was denied. Then I put in an app for my DH instead. Well, I guess he's in the good graces of AmEx now because he was instantly approved for $4,400! They also recently approved him for the Delta Gold for business for $20k. Mind you, he has an Experian FICO of 640, but apparently we did something to make them overlook that fact.

Given that I'm 4/24 now, I'll probably accept Chase's offer, so I'll go ahead and apply for other pre-approvals from Bank of the West, Citi, or maybe just maybe the new Wells Fargo Autograph credit card.

But, one thing, the $95 annual fee. I'll probably take up the Chase Unlimited credit card, which has a lower credit limit of $14K.

I know I am late in replying to this, but where did you see you were already preapproved? Under my offers?

I just applied and was approved for 17,900! Bonus will be easy peasy. I am now 5/24.... but I have all I want right now.

Congrats on your approval! I didn't apply for any cards that Chase pre-approved and selected for me. My reason was that the cash advance limit is inadequate to accommodate my usage.

CL on my Bank of America Cash Rewards mastercard was $6,500 as of my October statement, but I logged in a few days ago and noticed it's now $10,500.  It's the first auto-CLI in the >2 year history of the account.

(In July when they approved me for Unlimited Cash Rewards Visa at $18K, they thefted $3K from my Platinum Plus Visa which they still have not restored.  But it was just four months ago.  : /  )

Only posting it here because apparently they needed to do a pull of some sort, but Approved for a Chase Total Checking.

While that's banal on its face, it lets me get a couple kid accounts so they can have debit cards.  They have goHenry right now, but the fee is going up, and all Chase needs to be fee-free is putting in $500/mo into my checking with them.  Since they have four of my CCs, there's no reason to not put $500 there every month; just that much quicker to pay the bills.

So, approved for first new checking account in a long damned while, approved for two kidlet accounts, and hopefully overall better management and more making-sense.
