It’s a ground transportation service that offers cheap coach tickets to abutment dwellers that want to travel transcontinental or regionally  to other abutments. More reliable than Greyhound.

With that said, some trains have private sleeper rooms for us members of the bourgeoisie class, who enjoy traveling at a snails pace. Also have access to onboard showers and toilets that the proletariat is forbidden to use. Matter of fact, the proletariat is not even allowed to board or disembark the train through the sleeper cars under normal circumstances. The price for such tickets is a lot more substantial.

Early on in my military career I used to travel by Amtrak back and forth from NY to San Diego.  I rather enjoyed it.

Of course, that was what seemed to be centuries ago back before air travel was 1/3 the price of Amtrak and 100 times faster.

I just started what looks to be a nice, brisk, overnight travel schedule for work. This should last until at least the end of the year, at a minimum. The Choice Hotels points, should pile up nicely. This will help bank roll, some hotel stays next year on the west coast.

I stayed at the Hampton in Loveland, Colorado recently. I used my Southwest cc but I didn't get the maximum points because I did not book from the Southwest site but instead called the hotel directly to book. I had to do it that way because we received a discount for my relative who was in the hospital nearby.

Room was nice and the breakfast was phenomenal. Customer service or acknowledgement from the frontdesk sucked though.

The front desk at most hotels sucks. Given some of the properties I stay at, I always walk in with zero positive expectations.

I hope your relative is okay.

My association with Amtrak comes from living 30 years in Philly.  It's a critical artery of the Northeast.

While time in air between Philly and NYC or Philly and DC is a fraction of time on the train, airport logistics handsomely triples (or more) the commute time vs train.

Of course, once you're talking PHL-BOS, air triumphs in the long stretch.

I know 30th St and NYC Amtrak stations well. They don’t build’em like they used to. They did a nice job with Moynihan. Penn is getting a long overdue makeover. Should have never tore down the original NY Penn to make way for the Garden. God Bless Jackie O for helping to spear head the saving of Grand Central.

Damn straight!  I relish how, upon disembarking from a train, those terminals would fill you with a sense of glory and majesty!   Sky high pillars, ornate roofs, incredibly sculpted figures/objects ... it was breathtaking ... right up until you surveyed the trash on the floor and passed out vagrants.

Hampton's are all about the room and that simple, yet satisfying, breakfast (incl in the room rate).   They've been our "go to" for a brief, modest stay expense for about 25 years now (first attraction was the Hilton affiliation).

One of the most comforting aspects of a Hampton stay is that the bedspread is actually a duvet with a thin cloth cover, where the cover is removed for washing every day and replaced with a fresh cover.  (Given dining and "other" activities that tend to transpire on a hotel room bed, you really have to wonder what you're sleeping with when the bed covering is a standard bed spread that seldom, if ever, sees the wash!)

Got a reminder from Chase this morning, that these bonus spend categories, expire soon. This on my IHG card. We need a few things from Aldi. Normally Amex Gold gets the grocery spend.

Yes, yes that is so true about the duvet cover. Very clean and comfortable.
