It seems pundits love to write articles about "This time being different". I always believed in a more variable withdrawal strategy.  Feast when the harvest (returns) are good and tighten the belt in bad years.

So Social Security is going to zero (that's not being predicted), no other pensions, no other savings, etc. I get tired of reading articles like this. What do the writers think? People can't just start saving boatloads of money they don't have just because they wrote another doom-and-gloom article. And you're right: the goal of saving for retirement is not to be the richest person in the cemetery.

It's been six years since my dad retired and it's taken a lot of convincing, but I think 2022 will finally be the year he buys something frivolous just because he can (he wants a Viper  ).
