It's $15,000 for the first year and $5,000 the following years. Please promise to shoot me if I'm thinking of applying. I don't need their concierge service for booking my trips to McDonald's.

That form has been around now for a little over a year at least.

 

Even if I had the means and spend for that card, I'd have to pass, because Dollar General doesn't accept Amex.

I totally agree. Even just $5,000 a year for AF is totally fooking insane. Hell, I struggle to find value in the Gold Card at $250. And I refrain from the Platinum because it's $700.

Even if I wasn't a peasant, I wouldn't spend money just to have this card. $5,000 would get me a luxury vacation. $15,000 might be more than my car is worth.

I found a couple articles on the internet yesterday explaining this website to request consideration was something "new." If it's been around for a year, I've been had.   🤔

They want me to take a Platinum card, but my Gold card does what I need. I may go retro and just get a Green card for the 1960s vibe.

I think that current cardholders spend $100,000 or more per year, which is enough to tease American Express into inviting them to apply and get approval for the Centurion Card. Although this is a very loose basic approval policy compared to any crazy mandatory spending of $400,000 or more before, it is perfectly reasonable to generate revenue for the American Express Vault.  

 

So 20 years ago, I remembered that the annual fee for the gold card was $75, and the American Express Platinum Card was $395. American Express adopts the same revenue-generating strategy invites Gold Card members to upgrade to the Platinum Card. I think it is an insidious position for them to use this tactic to make money turning a charge card into a gorgeous charge card.

Search "Centurion Card benefits" on Google. Plenty of matches. Since I don't have the card I can't recommend one link.

 

If someone offered me $15,000 (or $5,000) or the Centurion Card free for a year, I'll take the money. It wouldn't be a close decision by a mile. If the offer went down to $100 or the card, I'll take the card.

Green card actually is pretty interesting, unlimited 3X MR for travel so for a lot of people if they value MR that may be a better spot if not huge travel expenses to recoup the platinum fee cost over the green fee. I really dont travel enough for either and dont spend anywhere near enough groceries or dining for gold.

I was at two different Dollars General over the weekend.  The clerk at the one in Braham, MN told me they do accept AmEx.

I don't know how long that online form has been available, however there has been a procedure for the last several years to contact AMEX and express your desire for an invitation to apply for a Centurion Card.

 

Once submitted, AMEX would typically review your credit, total spend and spending patterns and reply with measures that could be taken to enhance the chance for a Centurion Card invitation.  The most common recommendation was an increase in total spend with AMEX.  Had a client who did this, he was averaging $40K/month on his Platinum card and surely thought he was worthy of an invitation, AMEX told him they wanted to see a minimum of $500K/year in spend and that he had to up his game, LOL!

What's the point in spending so much to get the card. For money like that, you could easily just buy many, many, many times over what benefits the card might have.
